Visiting a landmark
Aug 2021
Can recommend a visit. Very scenic. Be aware, that one can only visit by guided tour, and some days the might be a 20-40 minute wait. Entrance fee is OK.

Nice little Castle 5 € for visiting the park and partly the castle
Aug 2019
The castle was the central location 50 years ago for a movie called "Wirtshaus im Spessart" with Liselotte Pulver. It is still worth a visit. A beautiful park with a lake and trout

An amazing castle in a peaceful area of Bavaria

This castle is a photographer's dream! Beautiful, bucolic area surrounded with woods to walk, and the castle is amazing. The tour is worth it, but they don't allow dogs into the gated grounds if traveling with your pooch!

Schloss Mespelbrunn - A Castle with a Moat!
Oct 2019
We paid only $5 per person for a tour of this castle and it was well worth it! Our tour guide was extremely personable and very knowledgeable; she shared numerous interesting facts about its history and was more than happy to answer questions, even in English. We also had lunch in the Bier Garten which was on-site; very enjoyable meal outdoors. I've always wanted to try wild boar, but have always been hesitant...it was delicious!

Unique and beautiful

The swan on the water saw us coming a was posing up a storm. Inexpensive, but the tour is only in Germany, but they can provide you with an English script for a small fee. Still lived in by the original family.

Unfriendly and Barricaded

How things have changed, for the worse. Greed has taken over. I used to like stopping here to have a coffee and just gaze at the castle and it’s reflection. Those days are gone! Now you have to pay a non-negotiable parking fee of 2 Euro whether you stay five minutes or two hours. You can’t get close unless you pay the 5 Euro entry fee, not even to take a photo! Cheap, cheesy and all-around unfriendly. Too bad. Really too bad.

Stop on our Tour

A bit of a drive to the castle with moat. We were on a tour, so had an English speaking guide and access to the grounds including garden, dining/gathering rooms. The family still lives in the castle. Pretty grounds and castle.

Beautiful setting for a small but photogenic castle
May 2019 • Family
This was our first castle visit during our week in Germany. We didn’t go inside because we wanted to get to our hotel, but the walk around the castle was relaxing and provided some great photo opportunities. It definitely is worth a visit.

Not adapted for tourists
May 2019 • Friends
It was 5 euros for the tour and they only speak in German. You can't go by yourself so you are waiting too long to go from a place to another (maybe only one or two rooms to see) : we did not finish the visit. The man with who we bought the tickets did not well explain that to us since he did not speak well another language and we understood after that you can bought a little piece of paper in English for 0,50€. A woman said that it is the same as when you pay for earphones but this is a paper to read not earphones so regarding the price and the tour it should be included ! Too bad, this is only for German people. If it is on your way you can have a look but don't pay for the tour it doesn't worth it...

Exit from A3 autobahn and visit
Mar 2019 • Couples
(Castle) Schloss Mespelbrunn is located ca 12 km off from highway A3. Instead of sitting in the traffic jam or after driving awhile, this is nice place to have a break. The castle has been built in a late-medieval or early renaissance style. It was built as a house originally at beginning of 15th century, however son of the builder fortified it into a castle mid of the 15th century. The round tower is from that era, rest existing is newer from 16th century. There is a beautiful chapel slightly off up hill from the castle.
Summary: take a break or detour.
