We stayed at Equinoccio Hotel. Probably ten rooms right on the water. Good breakfast, burgers for lunch and great Salvadorean food for dinner.

Hired a boat and driver to circle the lake for two hours. They had a two story boat dock where we had lunch and you could also leap into the cool refreshing water.

Staff was great and other guests were fun and/or interesting. Not many guests from the US.

This review sounds rather bland but this boutique hotel and lake are almost magical. We were there late December 2022. Before we arrived at the hotel we stopped at a restaurant along the highway. It is situated on a high cliff (several hundred feet) that overlooks the lake. In summary, we would highly recommend visiting this gorgeous lake and wonderful hotel.

We wound up having lunch at the lakeshore one day, and at a restaurant on the cliffs around the lake another day. Both were really nice. The lake is famous for ocassionally changing colors, and we got to see a bit of this change-over in progress one of the days we were there. Very cool!

Lago de Coatepeque is a 6km lake formed in the caldera of a extinct volcano. It will be your landscape as you drive to the Santa Ana Volcano Hike in Parque Nacional Los Volcanes.

Although most people appreciate it through their car window and a stop at a mirador on the way to the hike for a picture another option is to drive down to one of the various restaurant offerings located on the shore and enjoy a lunch and drink post the hike. This is what our tour did after we completed the volcano hike. I cannot recall the restaurant we went to but it did provide a platform that allowed us to have a swim in the lakes waters, which were clean and not too cold.

You can also access it via public bus 220 or 242 but I’m not sure on the specifics of that.

There is also a ferry that provides 45 minute tourist boat rides in the afternoon at a cost of 5 USD.

Overall it complemented the Santa Ana volcano hike well and we enjoyed our afternoon there.

After hiking Volcan Santa Ana, we stopped at one of the many restaurants overlooking this beautiful lake to have a drink Even though it was cloudy and the weather obscured the mountains and volcanoes in the distance, it was still a spectacular sight. Would love to return in the dry season and get out on a boat on the lake

We stopped at a few spots overlooking the lake on our route to hike the Santa Ana volcano. There are a few different spots to pull over and see the lake. It is gorgeous from above! We did not go down to the shore, so cannot comment on this. I would recommend finding a few look out spots if you're headed to Santa Ana volcano.

This is a beautiful lake. We ate lunch here. I would recommend staying in this area either before or after hiking Santa Ana Volcano.

Came here at the end of a day tour and had lunch on the lake. Nothing can beat the view and the breeze when sitting in the shade looking out into this lake.

The lake is on an ancient volcano with lots of things to do. We used a hostel that had day use amenities so we were able to kayak and jet ski around this beautiful lake.

Worth it!
If you go. Try to stay in one of the hotels around the lake. You will have the best view, you can perfectly swim in the lake
