We had a very pleasant walk along the river on Monday morning. Took us about an hour return trip from town. Very little along the route but there are a couple of bars etc. close to town end of the walk.

A nice quite walkway that starts right at the whakatane bridge all the way to the end of whakatane near the heads. Well taken care of, beautiful scenery, it's a must do if your looking to do something relaxing.

Whakatane and it's many walkways, beaches, fishing, surfing and weather are one of the most understated and hidden gems. Where else do you have all these activities and attractions within a 15min drive or in many cases a 10 to 15 min walk. It also...More

After our Mataatua Maori experience we visited the Whakatane River Walk. The scenery was beautiful during a partially sunny and cloudy day, with the weather not being too hot or cold during the afternoon. The Maoris were really generous and told us the story of...More
