We took the tour with PeeJay's on the first day they had been able to land at the island since Cyclone Ita hit.We weren't warned that conditions were going to be quite rough, but that was a good thing as we would probably not have...More

We had a fantastic experience on White Island. I can recommend the helicopter flight over to the island. By taking the helicopter you get a marvelous view of the active volcano while circling the island. On landing your guide takes you safely on a tour...More

The reviews say it better than I could. One of the standout travel experiences I have had - and it's just down the road from our home! I would recommend both the sea tour and the flight without hesitation. The tour operators are knowledgable and...More

WOW what an experience, to walk on a live volcano and feel the heat, smell the sulphur and see the ground bubbling beneath your feet, words cannot tell you what it's like you really must go. We took a boat with peejay tours, a great...More

Time and money well spent! Other people (tourists and Kiwis alike) we met on both islands recommended the boat excursion. The boat trip out, tour itself, and return voyage were highlighted by knowledgeable and friendly staff. The island is almost surreal. The guides and boat...More

We took the helicopter to White Island and it was the experience of a lifetime. As we were on the earliest possible flight, we had the island to ourselves which, in itself, was a fantastic feeling. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the island and...More

Is the boat trip to the Island calm in early February? How difficult is the walk on the island?

Hi Marcelles - it's hard to predict the conditions in advance and it really depends on the swell. When we went in December there was a large swell running thanks to storms north of New Zealand the week before. That made our... More

Hi. Enjoyed reading your review. You mentioned wearing old clothes. Is this due to the sulphur and the smell that will remain on your clothing? My family is planning to do this Volcano tour to white island the day before we are scheduled to depart internationally. Probably wearing same shoes and pants. If the smell is bad, I would surely purchase or bring "disposable" clothes for us. Do you recommend this

We are planning a trip to New Zealand during July 17 - 24, 2015 (probably the coldest time in NZ) and are thinking of taking the White Island trip on the 22nd of July from Rotorua. Would like to know if the trip itself would be feasible at that time and what are the conditions and clothing we should anticipate and plan for. Thanks Venkat
