Museum has grown a bit
Sep 2020 • Couples
When we visited this museum some years ago the entrance was through a somewhat modest building and free parking round the corner. Today the museum offers a extensive forecourt with beside the improved museum entrance, a nice restaurant annex micro brewery. The museum is about the history of the Ootmarsum area, showing buildings, implements and dioramas about daily life. This open air museum is very interesting; entrance for a fee, free entrance with the annual Dutch museum pass. Limited metered parking only in the vicinity. I recommend to park in one of the free parking lots and use the (approximately) 10 minutes walk to visit the charming historic center of Ootmarsum.

An nice way to spend an hour.

We visited on a very hot saturday morning in July. We used our museum kaarts to enter but also had to pay 2 euros 50 each something to do with flowers.
They had an audio guide but only in dutch or German so we gave it a miss.
There are a couple of nice buildings & its is nicely laid out but nothing up in english.
There were little stalls with flowers, plants & handcrafts nicely displayed through the museum.
It was a pleasant way to spend an hour.

Ok but not more than that

Visited with my husband and my 2 years old daughter, this place is not attractive for kids. For me it was interesting to see that old time in the Netherlands . But there were not demonstrators or demonstrations like in other sort of those museums . A little bit disappointed

Great way to spend an afternoon

We came with Dutch relatives and they were helpful with translation, as we weren't able to ask questions to the volunteers who spoke Dutch. You will need to devote 3-4 hours to see everything, very interesting to see how things works hundreds of years ago. A good place to get the feel for the real Netherlands. Plenty of places to eat or take a picnic. Highlight was riding the tram eating pofferjers!

Lovely Museum

We had a lot of fun looking at traditional Dutch life through the decades. We went with Dutch family friends who helped explain a lot to us, not sure the plaques outside rooms/buildings had as much information as they shared with us. So I'm not sure it would necessarily be as enjoyable for other non-Dutch citizens. But we had a great time and I would say it's worth the drive to see it!

Early farm yard and builings
Dec 2015
This was a great insight into early farming life in the Netherland. There was a moving diarama of the early years as well as a number of old buildings including a farm house with bedstead which shows people slep sitting up.

Get out of the busy Amsterdam city center and visit this open air museum, its really interesting. The entrance fee is around 15.00€ pp. Some might spend the whole day visiting all there is to see, we spend almost 3h30 wandering around and stopped at the pancake house and old pastry house, jump in the tramway, sample amber beer, learned that windmills were not invented by the Dutch but by Afghanistan, went in windmills to understand the mechanism and so on. This museum will entertain the young and the older as there is so much for everyone

Interesting day out

Great museum giving an insight into how Holland used to be. Info in all the buildings in various languages including English and we were given a plan of the site to follow which gave more information, again in English
Large site with plenty of walking involved, although there are trams that take you to various points. We visited the restaurant which had a limited choice and wa.s quite expensive in our opinion.
Someone mentioned free parking, we had to pay I think it was 6 euros.

Interesting Place
Aug 2014
The Open Air museum of Ootmarsum is a place that transports the visitors to what life was like in a rural estate at the turn of the century. The buildings are preserved with this past way of life. However, the majority of the information is only available in Dutch or German.
