Statue with a nice story.
Sep 2021
Visited the statue when we were passing by on a cycling trip. Since there is a nice story attached to the statue we had to stop to make some pictures.

Very Famous Small Statue
Jul 2021
The legend of this small statue is very famous but if you don't pay attantion and looking for it, you will miss it as it is located in a very crowded area by the harbour, next to a drawbridge with all the chains and the boom barrier of the bridge, the mast of the boats and the terrace by the pedestal of the statue.

Somewhat underwhelming statue in nice setting
Oct 2020 • Couples
The myth of the lady of Stavoren is a classical tale of how hubris will lead to a fall. The associated statue is rather mediocre in the otherwise pleasant harbour of the ancient Frisian city. Coincidentally. the restaurant with the same name nearby is pretty mediocre as well.

Part of Dutch history

Part of Dutch history, at a nice place in the harbour. There are much nicer towns on the "IJsselmeer", but Stavoren is not bad

From riches to rags
Feb 2017 • Couples
This small statue, located in the cosy Stavoren harbour, is a tribute to the legend of "het vrouwtje van Stavoren" (The woman of Stavoren), who was a very rich, high handed and arrogant woman, who owned a shipping fleet. She ordered her captain to dump a shipload of grain into the sea, because she was disappointed in the value of the cargo. She had expected it to be gold. The legend tells that she was punished by "higher powers"; her ships sank and she died extremely poor. The statue is worth visiting and you can read up on the legend on the marker.

Expectation was higher
May 2016 • Family
I had heard some stories of the statue at the old harbour bridge / water lock. And I actually had expected a typical human size statue, but it turned out to be somewhat like one metre high or so.

At least underneath you find a historic description in several languages, also in the 'Fries' language.

The harbour area has some nice old buildings as well as some newly build but still in historic style.
