Glad I read previous review regarding the car mirror scammer, sounds like he's been ripping tourists off for years now, same man with a beard parked just past the car park on exit, creates a thud when you drive past making you think you've hit his car and then tries to take your details, when I told my husband it was a scam the guy must have understood and said everything was OK, no damage done. The guy had also put a black mark on our car mirror. Please beware, I will also report to the police.

Interesting information about tonnario, nice bird viewing. The beach has a lot of vegetal
Debris. Once your got through it the water was clear and refreshing. 3,500 e to park and 3 e for park ticket.

Visited today 8th November. Still some flamingos (six) close enough to view without binoculars. We read the mirror scamming from previous reviews so were prepared when someone pulled out of the car park and stopped before the first bend. As we passed “thud” then followed by gesticulating bearded driver. This scam is certainly continuing and thanks to previous reviewrs for warning us. Otherwise the area seems very safe

I arrived at the Calamosche entrance, and paid 3 Euros to park in the olive grove at the Calamosche agriturismo a short walk from the reserve entrance. I'm pleased to report that on the drive along the bumpy lane to get to the car park I did not encounter the mirror scammers referred to in earlier posts, just enterprising locals selling fresh fruit and refreshing granita at their farm stall. I enjoyed a walk along the coast to the Vendicari tower, stopping to look at the flamingoes on the lagoons from a distance, and enjoying the sea breeze. The open stone built hides provided a little welcome shade. There were portaloos just inside the Calamosche entrance, but no facilities near the tower & tonnara - the ecomuseum was closed. Calamosche beach itself is around a km from the car park, and you will need to bring everything you need for a day at the beach - a far cry from the traditional regimented Italian seaside of rows of sun loungers, parasols, beach clubs, showers and bars.

You pay into this beach reserve, but you can see how well maintained it is. Perfect for a long walk along the coastline with the ruins of the fish factory making an interesting pitstop. Great restaurant just beside the carpark for lunch afterwards

The beaches in this natural reserve are a natural treasure. There’s a free park near the beaches access, to enter the reserve you have to pay a fee (3.50€/person).
The location is amazing, near the closed tonnara and the eco-museum where you can learn more about the history of this place.
Absolutely worth a visit, even just for few hours, if you’re in the nearby you can’t miss it!

Park is beautiful, but the police will wait the end of the day to come and fine all of the cars that have been there since the morning.
Also, the signs are incomplete and the only parking is a private place. It smells if you ask me.

We we’re scammed today visiting Vendicari. A man with a car was waiting by the road close to the park, and while we passed him we heard a loud noise. We didn’t think more about it but the man started waving and gesticulating so we stopped the car a bit down the road. The man claimed we had hit his wing mirror, which sounded completely insane since we had had a lot of space on the road. But then he showed us a long black mark on our rental car and in the moment of shock he made us believe that we had actually hit him. He asked for 150 euros and not to call the police, but thank God we only had 45 euros left in our wallets. He took the money quite happily and drove off yelling something we couldn’t understand. Afterwards it dawned on us that it was black crayon on the car and all a big scam. Be aware visiting Vendicari! A quick googling later we found that others had experienced the exact same thing here. Watch out and threaten to call the police immediately if you are stopped. And happy bird watching!

We visited this reserve on a sunny but not hot day in early November. Many young couples, and families with young children, were enjoying the trails. Saw several species of ducks and grebes on the ponds, as well as a few spoonbills and over 200 flamingos.
I understand there are three entrances to the park. We entered in the center, where several ponds can be viewed within a 20 minute walk of the entrance. Their website is very informative, there is also a large trail map posted at the entrance which you can take a photo of. On the day we visited, part of the southward path just past the flamingo pond was closed due to flooding, but we still spent a couple of very enjoyable hours here experiencing nature.

We visited with our two kids, 7 and 4. We parked by the side of the road and were charged €4 by a random man, who knows if this is legit or not, but for the sake of €4 I didn't really argue the matter. After the entrance station (entrance is free) its a short well paved walk to the beach with a right turn and further short walk taking you to the area where the flamingos are. Sadly when we went the flamingos were the other side of the lagoon and not visible, but there was plenty of wildlife to see, big butterflies, dragonflies, lizards etc. The kids enjoyed spotting them.

Then we went to the beach which is quite narrow but that means quick easy access to the sea, easy to keep an eye on the kids, and it has very a shallow bay so you can walk out quite far in gentle waves. Highly recommended, beautiful spot.
