Beautiful, original art for most styles and price ranges

My husband and I happened upon this store without previous knowledge of it. Anyone going to Otranto should stop in. The shop owners are the artists and they create unique pieces showcasing the beautiful colors of Puglia. The small mosaic we bought looks great hanging in our home.

This mosaic shop in the piazza in front of the cathedrale is amazing. Gorgeous, imaginative, sometimes whimsical, mosaics abound. They are all done by hand by the proprietors, an incredibly talented pair of local artists who have studied at important mosaic centers including Ravenna. The shop is like a little museum and the lovely, gracious owners couldn’t be nicer or more accommodating. Each work is unique; no two pieces are alike. The work is detailed and extremely intricate, museum quality. Interestingly enough, the cathedrale next door is famous for its wonderful mosaics. How fitting to see that this artistic tradition persists to this day in Officina Mosaico. In Otranto this shop is a must. Go there; you’ll be glad you did. Your only problem will be deciding what to buy. And don’t worry about shipping. They use a wonderful courier called TNT which is very reliable.

Stunning Artistic Shop - Must See
May 2018 • Couples
I've done over 250 T.A. reviews and this is only the second one for a shop, but Officina Mosaico is so unique that I have to talk about it.

When one exits the stunning cathedral in Otranto, overwhelmed by the mosaic floor (and the bones in the chapel), come down the stairs and turn slightly right. Across the square is this small shop.

The shop is filled with mosaics, large and small, whimsical or very artistic, in combinations of stone, ceramic, glass, and even gold and silver leaf, all created by a tremendously charming (and patient with two older Americans) husband and wife team (ably assisted by a very old yellow lab). The range of offerings (from 10 - 1,000E) range from reinterpretations of ancient mosaics to clever souvenir offerings. My wife and I spent close to an hour and came home with a fish, a leaf, and a splendid raku sperm whale (the husband more than dabbles in ceramics, in addition to the mosaic work).

We had been searching throughout Puglia for a birthday present for me and found nothing of much interest. At Oafficina Mosaico the only problem was narrowing it down to one. And my wife took care of her birthday in September at the same time.

A totally unique shop and warm, helpful, patient artists. Can't recommend more highly.

True Italian Craftmanship

This small store is a must visit while in Otranto. They make all the mosaics by hand and their items are beautiful. We bought a bracelet for our grand daughter and a beautiful piece we display in our window.
This is the store where I bought my wife her present for our 39th wedding anniversary. She cherishes her gift. They even gave us a gift for our anniversary!!!
They are so personal and accommodating. This is the place to buy that special gift to take home or give someone.

Beautiful contemporary mosaics
Jul 2015 • Couples
Following on from our visit to the Cathedral with its memorable mosaics, it was a delight to visit this studio of contemporary mosaics, located just opposite the entrance. They sell truly wonderful pieces which have been painstakingly crafted. The enthusiasm of Chiara and Antonio was clearly discernible as they explained their art. A gem of a studio in Otranto.
