This is a near perfect example of a town in the "heel" of Italy. Small enough in size to see it all in a couple of hours plus dining time. Quaint white washed houses with many steps and narrow walks in old section Locals choose their meat from a butcher type display, mostly grilled meats. Ice cream in main square... More

Find it hard to give support to a tourist town which is fascistic. They display their anti foreigner posters throughout the town, stare you down and refuse to smile. Extremely uncomfortable. Restaurants either overpriced or under quality. Can't wait to leave. Feel like we fell into the twilight zone.  On a positive note, the historical old town was quaint and... More

this small village is a nice place during the day and the evening. In the old part it's nice to walk and eat in the evening. People are friendly. Most of the time it's easy to find parking

We stayed for 5 weeks on the outskirts of Cisternino in a Trulli house (Villa Olive), 5 minutes drive from the Centro Storico (Historic Centre) . We did not really realise what a good selection of town we had made until we got here. Every-one was so friendly and helpful, and surprisingly many people spoke some English, from the ladies... Every time I'm in Cisternino I feel something inside me....what a beauty! This small but very special place is one of my favorite. By the main square you'll find good bar and restaurant , nice local people and this magic atmosphere that is in every corner. Please make a favor to your self...do visit Cisternino...this city will not let you... More

I can't recommend Cisternino highly enough. It's a lovely place to visit and we've been back many times. It doesn't have the crush of visitors or the "touristy" feel of places like Alberobello. I read somewhere that it is nicknamed "la vera" because it's "the real thing" (ie feels like an authentic Puglian hill town rather than a tourist attraction).... More

The town's architecture is very Moorish, so this atmospheric bar with Moroccan day beds and flamenco tunes fits in nicely. The owners are very friendly and even provided a much-needed blanket on a chilly evening.

Small, lovely old town, with the Town hall at its center surrounded by whitewashed houses: hidden corners, alleys, small arches, a fascinating atmosphere
