I moved tens of kilometers to spend 2 hours waiting because they had told me beforehand that a reservation was not necessary more the caves are of no interest with illiterate guides who could not speak English and extremely unpleasant, the caves were not only boring but very long

What a gem
Jul 2021
These caves are worth a visit. You need to be comfortable walking up and down stairs/inclines/declines for a few kilometers in order to get through them. But if you can, you should NOT miss these caves. They are beautiful, and it was a true learning experience.

And if you go on a very hot day, the temperature inside will be a welcomed change. :-)

A real wonder

We really enjoyed the visit. We choose the long tour which is a loop of 3K in the caves. We strongly suggest it. The caves are a real wonder and the white cave is fantastic. The village is also very nice with many restaurants around the entrance of the caves.

Amazingly large caves

This is one of the most amazing set of caves in Europe (and maybe the world). The visit is well organised, with lots of explanations. There is also a lot of variety in the seeings, so you cannot be bothered even when taking the long tour. Do not forget a small pull-over, although it is not *that* cold (around 18 Celsius).

WORST CAVE TOUR I HAD IN MY LIFE !!!!!!!!
The 2 hour long tour lasted 1:20 !!! the two guides were not stopping in the kilometers long cave, just running like animals... you don’t have any single minute to admire the cave creatures... this is the worst ever experience I had. And they said hundred times “no photo, no photo” .... “no photo, because it’s our copyright”... Copyright??? WTF.... WTF????
they were violent...
I was in other caves of the world and no other is just about the money like this...

Warning = Scam

Awful experience. This is a scam: they make you pay 4€ to park and then tell you you cannot visit unless you wait 3hours. Then refused to give money back.

Perfect
Jul 2020 • Friends
We booked the long tour in English and it was perfect. A must see in Puglia and if your legs are able to carry you this far the long tour is definitely worth the 3€ plus compared to the short tour.
Our guide was Claudio and he was the best, guiding us with funny stories, a lovely smile and perfect English.

The Grotto di Castellana
Sep 2019
On our visit to Puglia last summer, while we were staying in Alberobello, we visited the Grotto di Castellana one afternoon. The grotto, whose tickets and timed reservations must be made in advance, was truly interesting and fascinating. The grotto, actually "caverns" are viewed during a guided tour and are much more extensive than I had imagined. The pathways are well paved and safety railings are present wherever needed, especially where the path might be slippery or slightly steep or where stairs are present. The grotto itself is a visual treat with the different rock formations and developments. However, I found that the lighting , although great for visual viewing, did not lend itself well to my basic subcompact camera, so most (but not all) of my memories are mental. Definitely a place to visit and see when you are in the area - most worthwhile.
