This is a piece of history that you can read about and then walk around. It really is like stepping into a piece of the past thinking of how they lived and why they left. Make sure to read the information about it before touring...More

I biked here from the central part of town, a lovely experience in and of itself as I made friends with many local dogs and sheep - and saw a total of zero people. The deserted village is at the end of the street, up...More

Great experience to stand in the forgotten houses and imagine what Iife was like. It was like something out of a Peig Sayers book. You could imagine how tough it wa, paying rent to the landlord living off the sea and the garden. You can...More

My sister and I visited the deserted village on a rainy, cloudy day which just enhanced the whole experience. We were able to imagine the hardship and difficult conditions the people lived through in the 1800's.

The village which was abandoned during the Potato Famine is a beautiful, but sad place to see. When you see the size of the houses (in ruins) and realize how many people lived in them, and were affected by the famine it is heartbreaking. You...More

I found this a very emotional experience, walking in the ruins and tracks of a community long gone, but not forgotten. Your mind takes you on a flight of fancy, as to where and what became of them, and I have found myself being inspired...More

Hello Debra, when you stay at keel, it is well signposted. It´s easy to get there. Depending on the weather, bring wellies with you. Might get a bit muddy when it´s raining. Parking place (free) at the cemetery.
