Really a must see for anyone interested in Irish history, particularly the dark side of the Famine era. Truly a sad site to see an entire village, consisting of well over 100 homes abandoned, especially under the circumstances of the times. Provides great insight into...More

You see this sight in the distance and you can't help but to drawn to it. We parked and walked along the dirt road imagining what it must have been like so many years ago. The sheep wander through the left over remains of the...More

Beautiful setting and pleasant to wander around. Not hard, but practical footwear highly recommended. Partial walls, doorways, and windows for many old homes

Well firstly the trip advisor map is in completely the wrong place. By quite a considerable distance. It’s actually back around Keel. Wasn’t very well signposted, and as others have said it’s not really somewhere to learn. I’m sure it’s very interesting if you already...More

This was high on my list of things to see in Achill and didn't disappoint. Stunningly scenic, even with in poor weather. Bit of a slippy climb the way we went up but nothing too tricky. Informative sign before you start the walk up to...More

100 deserted houses along an old pathway about 1 mile long. Amazing place to visit and to stroll around and contemplate what has happened.

A crumbling collection of stone houses built by an unknown population which abandoned them sometime in the early 20th century. They have been here for hundreds of years. One story I heard was that they were built when the ruler taxed houses according to the...More

Hello Debra, when you stay at keel, it is well signposted. It´s easy to get there. Depending on the weather, bring wellies with you. Might get a bit muddy when it´s raining. Parking place (free) at the cemetery.
