Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Met Ger at one of the piers. We started slow and ended up having not only a great hike but also a great time....learned a lot about many different things. And the guy is in shape!!!!
Had a solid 21 KM hike up and over--think it was called 'The Coffin Trail'.....we had previously 8 hikes along the western coast --all good but really loved this as we were more off road than the others.
Ger knows his stuff~~highly recommend working with him as a guide. Even told us what restaurant to get the best chips at in Keel....Spot on!
(ask him to tell u the balloon joke)

My husband and I met Gerard at Keel beach, then followed him for our climb. Gerard was patient and knowledgeable and it could not have been a more perfect afternoon. We learned Gerard does quite a few walking tours and we would highly recommend Gerard for any of these. Thank you!

We climbed Craughan with Gerard and will definitely return to do Slievemore another time. Highly recommend. Gerard set a good pace, made sure we followed a safe path and saw all the best viewing points and told us all about the history of Achill and other islands.

I climbed Croaghaun and Slievemore with Gerard. I couldn't recommend him highly enough. An absolute pleasure to hike with, a gentleman. His relaxed manner, steady and relaxed pace and huge knowledge of the environment made these hikes most enjoyable. These mountains can be very difficult to navigate when the fog descends (and it did!), but Gerard seemed to know every rock along our trail! A most competent and confident hike leader. I'll definitely be back for more hikes around Achill soon!

Just finished doing a walking tour with Gerard. A local expert with an encyclopedic knowledge of Achill Island, history, geography, famine, flora, fauna and Ireland in general. A gentleman with the very important tour guide attribute of a sense of humour. I cannot recommend Gers tours highly enough to enhance your visit to Achill. Thanks again Ger.

I climbed both Croaghaun and Slievemore on Achill with Gerard. As a native archaeologist he knows every last thing about Achill Island‘s history, as a mountain guide he knows every last stone and weather system. He is a walking encyclopaedia, loves to crack jokes and little wind ups as you are scaling the most beautiful landscapes together. You will have a blast with Gerard. Highly recommended!

The most beautiful views. Nowhere like Ireland anywhere in the world. This is a recently opened walk over Sli Grainne Mhaol. Bit of a climb but easy enough for a family walk. Abandoned houses, old paths, bog add to the interest but the real attraction are the stunning views. Well marked. Wear sturdy boots and warm gear. And enjoy a well deserved pint in Pattens pub where you park your car. Great craic and local knowledge.

Gerard was a guide for a group of walkers, I was fortunate to be part of, out for a day in Maumturk Mt area. Gerard's knowledge of the mountain we climbed and his ability to judge and accomodate a pace suitable for our group was excellent. Gerard shared his knowledge of the surrounding peaks, far off islands, inlets, bays and lakes as well as local history, folklore and flora & fauna. With fantastic views, an excellent guide - our group had a wonderful memorable experience

Gerard guided a group of 14 inexperienced hill walkers into the Maumturk Mountains and each and every one of us had an absolutely brilliant experience. The views from the summit (650m) were spectacular.Gerard gauged the ability of our group to perfection, providing the perfect walk at a pace that suited all. He pointed out out all the different peaks in the area, told us about flora and fauna and filled us in on local history, all delivered in such an easy manner and with humour. Gerard makes the mountains accessible to all. Any group who need a guide, need look no further.
