While walking along the lake in Starnberg, we came across a sign point at the direction of “Roseninsel” or Rose Island. So we continued walking until we reached the boat which takes people to the Island for 4 Euro each in a 4 min trip. The island is fairly small and quite with different types of rose trees planted throughout... More

After finding ourselves with a spare half day we decided to make the trip out to the Casino on Rose Island. The villa is an interesting place to visit, with some exquisite touches, but is much plainer than Maximillian II's other residences. It must have been a lovely retreat in its time. The real treat here is the restored circular... More

Visited on a whim as I was cycling past the small ferry port and the ferry had just come in. My decision was based on reading a nearby notice board which highlighted recent excavations at the north end of the island which were of such importance that the island is now a UNESCO site. These are underwater remains of Iron... More

It is necessary to cross to an island by ferryboat. We visited at 16:30 on May 5. It was the last tour at 17:00. The staff of the ferryboat ignored three travelers and left the pier. The staff is wanting to go home early. He has not turned to tourist business.

Roseninsel is an island (the only island) in Lake Starnberg. A 4 euro (roundtrip) fare for the short ferry ride (passengers only) is about 20-30 minutes walk from the Feldafing and Posenhofen S-Bahn stops. The island is tiny with restored rose garden and "casino" (villa or cottage) built by Maximilian in the early 1860s. Great views of the alps off... More
