Go try the public bath. Its a real experience plus many locals also go there. 200yen for towels. 100yen for soap. Entry is 440yen. Or if you are short of time, there is a free foot onsen outside the bathouse. Also there is a mechanical clock outside the bathhouse. Everyhour little dolls will give a small performance. A lot of... Though we didn't plan it, the day we went it was incredibly quiet, with not one other tourist in sight. It was drizzling, but we undertook the walking track and do not regret it. Our two teenagers found plenty to keep them amazed and interested and cannot wait to to re-visit this piece of paradise. We caught a JR train... More

The river gorge walk was beautiful & there were almost no people walking along the river on the day when we were there. If you get the "Yamanaka Onsen Walking Map" it gets less beautiful beyond the gorge and after the 2nd bridge and then it gets desolate & depressing so you should walk into town after that second bridge.... Was here just now for 1 hour. Very busy at 8pm. Can find cheaper onsen near by. Shoe cabinet is not sufficient for mine. Best to bring own shampoo and soap and towel.

Great hospitality, great Onsen, the real Japanese experience. The spas are good and the full board is great. The rooms are truly convenient and inviting.

I've been here multiple times, in the fall and winter. This is an amazing fall or winter retreat, perfect to refresh yourself over a weekend. In the fall, the autumn leaves are beautiful. The town itself is quaint, and has a very Japanese feel to it. In the town, there are free outdoor foot baths that you can soak your... More

Even though the temprature reached 35 or more, Kakusenkei green path way is comfortable for walking time. Just to pay about 500 hundred Japanese yen and people could enjoy the green tea or dessert under the red seat. Don't like Kyoto, fewer people here and much peace time I got.

A short 20 min ride on the Shinkansen brought us from Kanazawa to Kaga Onsen, which is actually a collection of four hot spring towns, namely Yamashiro Onsen, Yamanaka Onsen, Awazu Onsen and Katayamazu Onsen. We decided on Yamanaka Onsen for of course, the onsen, and Kakusenkei Gorge. We took a connecting bus from Kaga Onsen to Yamanaka Onsen. (Pick... More

Hands-down the best onsen town I have ever visited. It is easily accessible by public transport: just catch a train to Kagaonsen from Kanazawa and get one of the shuttle buses that frequently depart from the train station. The bus will take 30 minutes from Kagaonsen Station. It will drop you off in the middle of Yamanaka which is truly... More
