NATURAL SANCTUARY IN THE HILLS NEAR SEVILLE THIS RESTORED FORMER CARTESIAN MONASTERY OFFERS THE VISITOR A HAVEN OF PEACE IN A STUNNING SETTING OF GREAT BEAUTY WITH A UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE. Amidst the Natural Park of Sierra Norte in the hills northeast of Seville in Andalusia, Southern Spain, you find this wonderful historic site of the former 15th Cent. Carthusian monastery. With Moorish remains dating back to the 8th Century, and with the original monks'settlement having been started in 1416, this Historic Heritage Site (B.I.C. in Spanish) and private monument nowadays can be visited on weekends and national holidays. 70% of the buildings have been consolidated and progressively restored, from its state of ruin in which it was found in the mid-1970's, after being abandoned for 150 years since 1836, due to the National reform called Desamortización de Mendizábal. (during this time it was used as a wine cellar, stables and farm by locals). One can enjoy spectacular views all around towards the sierra from the roof terraces. One can appreciate the 4 arquitectural styles: moorish, Gothic Sevillian , Barroque Navarre and Renaissance. Nowadays, WEDDINGS, private and cultural events and Mindfulness SILENCE RETREATS take place in this monument. There is also a GUESTHOUSE with 20+ beds inside the complex (NOT TO BE CONFUSED with the former guesthouse hospederia situated outside the main gates).

A beautiful spot, held in some kind of reverence by most locals, this ex-monastery has rooms and gardens beyond normal expectations. We were lucky enough to be invited to wedding celebrations there and the experience was extraordinary
