If you get the change visit Trim Castle you should take the 60 minute guided tour. Without the guided tour you cannot enter the Castle. There are a lot of steps to climb but it is worth the effort.

the tour was average, but impressive site w/ lots of history. This was the castle used in Braveheart, and when we asked about it, were shown pictures of behind the scenes from filming.

We opted for a guided tour of this fascinating place and we were not disappointed. We learned a lot of history, the guide was well versed and the tour provided us with information beyond just the basics!

I went on a wet Saturday and still manages to see lots of the Castle. We opted for the tour which took us inside and was worth the small fee. The guide was super friendly and explained lots of history. I would recommend.

There is a Gaeltacht area not far from there close to Athboy. Ráth Chairn was founded in 1935 when families moved to area from Connemara, it’s grown a lot since then! Enjoy your visit. Slainte!
