Spectacular setting
Oct 2019
Sadly the castle was shut the day we visited but we could view the outside. It is in a spectacular setting on the coast looking out towards the Turkish coast. Managed to get into the neighbouring Greek Orthodox church which was interesting.

Nice castle with great view
Sep 2019 • Couples
Nice, old castle (sadly closed) with wonderful view at the sea. Not so far from public parking, so if you have a car there is no problem.

Located on the Waterfront
Aug 2019
Logothetis Castle is more like a mansion at the waterfront in Pythagores city. It has a nice view but was closed when we visited.

I love coming here during sunset to see the views, it's a great place for a social media photo and you can see planes take off from the airport

Step back in time!
Aug 2018 • Couples
We visited the castle one afternoon and were really impressed with the castle itself and the views. They were breathtaking. Unfortunately, we arrived just after closing time so we weren’t able to go inside. We will visit again on our next visit to Samos. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing ruins
Aug 2018 • Family
Took our kids here just to see the old ruins. It is truly amazing walking around and seeing old the different ruins from various time periods.
There was a ceremony celebrating independence in the church so we could not see everything but really enjoyed our small visit.

The landmark of Pythagorio
Aug 2018 • Friends
The castle is part of the history of Pythagorio and Samos. You see the fusion of different styles of architectures and stones from the antiquity, to medieval and renaissance. An excellent place to take photos, where the Aegean blue, the hilltop and the beach front create the perfect frame.

Castle of Pythagorion and ruins of Imperial Roman Villa
May 2018 • Friends
Castle of Lykourgos is a complex of buildings at the hill overlooking the bay of Pythagorion. The large Byzantine castle was built in 8th century in order to defend both a town and a harbor, not much remains of this structure but castle walls and ruins of towers, which can be seen from all directions from afar. Remaining intact is a Tower of Lykourgos Logothetis, a smaller structure built/renovated much later, which is not open for visitors. The castle complex contain also a Church of Metamorphosis, standing neighbour to the castle Tower, the rather old construction with beautifully carved wooden doors and details of interior.

The top of the castle hill with commanding view over the bay was seen as the most secure and admirable location on the island from the antiquity. Next to the Castle there is an archeological area of Imperial Roman Villa, with remains of large palatial buildings and columns still standing, as well as second villa of Hellenistic period, ca 2 century BC.
This Imperial villa accommodated such distinguished guest as Cleopatra and Mark Anthony, Octavian August and emperor Hadrian on their voyages, as well as other kings and princes, guests of Roman emperors. Quiet and pleasant area, a best spot for rest and meditation under the sun in beautiful surroundings we could find.

Reconstructed castle, church, cemetery, great ocean views
Sep 2017 • Couples
This is a reconstructed castle telling the interesting history of the area over the last centuries. There is a beautiful church next to it, with a large cemetery. It is on the top of a small hill so you also get great views of the ocean. It is not too far from the airport.
