Visited Thattekad Bird Sanctuary last week of March 2017. Our primary Objective was to see and photograph as many birds we can. Even tough we have chosen kind of off-season to visit, we were not disappointed at all. We captured many colorful birds we haven't see before. Place is awesome and a paradise for bird/nature lovers & photographers alike. We... More

Get in there early, you can go in before the 7.00 opening and pay when you come out if you talk to the ticket office the day before. Racket-tailed Drongos everywhere, and plenty of unusual birds around if your luck is in. The trails can be done without a guide.

This is advertised as one of the most outstanding bird sanctuaries in India. Unfortunately we had only been in the park 10 minutes and there was torrential rain. We managed to walk through the butterfly sanctuary which had some beautiful flowers. We came back the next day having booked on a tour - this is recommended as the guides know... More

One of the best bird sanctuaries so far.. Situated close to Kothamangalam, Kerala, Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is easily accessible by road and a place one could see birds throughout the year. Be prepared to walk, hours and hours one could wander through the park. Carry a binocular to see some of the smaller birds high on the tree tops. If... More

Fantastic location , I went on 4 walks with Vinod from Bird songs Homestay, an excellent guide and fantastic birding. You have to pay for trips in to the sanctuary 175 rupees and 500 rupees for the 2 different locations. Highly recommended for nature lovers and birders I didn't venture into the zoo which was very limited.

We were fortunate to stay at the Jungle Bird Homestay during our two full day visit to Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. The variety of birds to be found is truly amazing. The trails are well maintained and for the most part can be managed by all with little difficulty (except to keep hydrated). Especially appreciated were the large posters with... More

With school kids coming on selfie trips with a baggage of loud noise its almost difficult to spot anything. Early morning are the best timings. We asked for a guide but charges were 1000/- buck which to our estimate was quite high with no guarantee of viewing anything. We went without a guide and though listened to a variety of... More

We saw 98 species in our 2 day trip here. There is a variety of habitats. It is worthwhile going with a good guide like Gireesh from Junglebird Homestay.

Wow. Just Wow. We saw between 40-50 birds here with amazing colours. Take binoculars. It was spectacular. We saw drongos, bee eaters, open bill storks, kingfishers, jungle babblers, shrike, bulbuls, flycatchers, etc etc. The sanctuary is well worth diverting for a visit. It's really near to the Hornbill tented camp which we stayed at. The highlight of our trip.
