Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We hired Chef Gerson of Gerlis Kitchen.com to come to our vacation rental in Las Catalinas. It was amazing from start to finish! The food, the value, the experience, presentation, even down to their clean up at the end. Chef G comes with an assistant and creates an extraordinary food experience right before your eyes and comes to YOU! We had hand crafted mojitos they made upon arrival on our balcony watching the sunset as Chef prepared the most delicious homemade chips (from a root!) and the best guacamole ever! He then prepared us the most beautiful and light fresh ceviche we had here all week, including in the top restaurants in Las Catalinas. Something I’ve never had in all my world travel were the plantain fritters he made to accompany the ceviche. Absolutely delicious! Next we had an amazing taco fiesta with 4 proteins including spiced pork ribs, steak, chicken fajitas and authentic chorizo. The accompaniments were very tasty potatoes and black beans ( so good). Finally if you can save room he makes the most delicious banana bread dessert with freshly made whipped cream and strawberries. Wow! Incredible value for the cost because we paid for 4 and had a whole other meal of leftovers for the next day. And Chef G will entertain you with his stories and explanation of the food he is serving you. It’s a can’t miss! Other menus available as well! find him at GerlisKitchen.com if you are staying anywhere is the Guanacaste region!

Great beach and right next to the town of Las Catalinas. Some good snorkeling near the rocky areas on the left and right side when the wind is low and not churning things up. Fantastic place to watch the sunset too.

Absolutely stunning beach right off of Santarena Hotel and Pura Vide Ride & Rentals. Calm, crystal clear waters where you can swim and enjoy the day sun bathing. It was never crowded, and was also able to see some seagulls fishing and flying over the beach on numerous occasions. Beautiful views of the sunset over the surrounding hills as well.

This is a nice quiet beach but the sand is brown, grey, and black so it's not very pretty. It's a good place to paddle board, swim, or just hang out but we prefer beaches with whiter sand.

This is a great beach! One minute golf cart ride from Casa Chameleon. Nice, shady spots. Beautiful black sand (that is very hot on your feet when it’s not wet) and really pretty red shells.

To access this beach you need to either wait for the tide to go out a bit or walk through Las Catalinas and take the wooden walkway over a small creek and then follow a path through the woods up and down bike trails and it will deposit you at the beach.

There are no facilities. The beach is secluded and you will not see many if any people. The sand is much nicer than at Las Catalinas. On a Sunday’s you will some some local families on the beach enjoying the day and picnicking.

There are rocks in one spot right in front of Lemonada. Avoid those, go east a bit and there are no rocks and sandy bottom.

If you are near Tamarindo in CR, you have to visit Las Catalinas and be ready for the beach and for a hike, and of course a good camera, here you can see the famous islet with a tree in the middle, swim at the beach Danta and Dantita and hike the trial or rent a bike and do the whole thing if you have the time and energy for a mountain bike 2 hours ride.

There is a public parking lot and people taking an eye on the vehicles, we leave our rental car there with our backpacks and no problem.

Bring your drinks, food and snack, there is a restaurant by the villas with far away restaurant prices. And there is a store for souvenirs, good mountain bikes for rent and other things.

A great beach which offers free access to it. It can get a bit crowded towards late morning but you will always find space to relax and enjoy.

This a a great beach with good waves for the kids. Chair rental as well as boogie board and paddle board rental is available on site. Lunch is available on the beach in the shade at Limonada and they have great activities for the kids as well.
