We went to see this historical site but were disappointed as it is closed and apparently has been for a few years. No activities, including a simple walk through the grounds, are possible and the road to the former entrance is gated. If you want to see something authentic related to Native history nearby, we suggest a side trip to... More

This place WAS so beautiful years ago and it saddens me greatly to see it now. Trees have been cut and camp sites created with little regard and respect for nature. It is a sacred place yet this aspect seems to be of less importance now. Last time I visited there was yellow "keep out" tape everywhere.

I don't believe the park will be opening again, as locals suggest. There do not appear to be any renovations going on at this time or since it closed several years ago. As it is part of Hiawatha and a First Nations site it may be due to its history as a sacred burial ground.

I grew up camping at Serpent Mounds both when it was a Provincial Park and when it was taken over by the First Nation Hiawathas. Absolutely love the park but am very dissappointed that it has been closed for many years for renovations. Understand that they are trying to upgrade the park but communication has been very poor as the... More
