Definitely do this, worth the minimal effort to learn about the history and times past. Make the detour to the church too for the amazing views and ambience. An easy stroll, well signed and interesting.
A very nice and relaxing walk with lots of information boards, beautiful ocean views, a pretty river, and paths to GORGEOUS peaks looking down on the water. This would be INCREDIBLY romantic in the evening.
