A must do in Jura

The guided tour is excellent, with the visit of the well and caves. you really see how the salt was extracted from the well, dried and packaged 300 years ago. really impressive.

Amazing place! They are mining salt this way since the 6th century and probably thousand years before. Difficult to describe.

There is a very old salt-water pump in action, quite unique. Speaking French is a must if you want to understand everything.

No salt around. Lot of stories, from which you realize that the story is about the architect and his architecture there and else. Mostly recommended.

This is a truly interesting place to visit, taking you underground to where the salt was brought to the surface in salt-saturated spring water. As previous reviewers have mentioned, there is not facility for anything other than French-speaking. I was OK, because my French is passable, but another English-speaking couple who were nearby were struggling. If not for that, this... More

I cannot fault the enthusiasm of the staff here. Extremely professional and full of positive energy. the problem is mine because my French is limited to reading and picking out a few words to understand whats going on. the staff are fab and I was given a well written informative fact sheet to read whilst on the tour. The 2pm... More

You have to take a guided tour to view these saltworks. It is an hour long and only in French, which unless you have a comprehensive understanding of the language, will leave you in the dark because of the technical details. I felt there was not enough written information in several languages to make this worth the price of admission... More

As other reviewers have noted, the tours are on the hour and start with the underground section. As a result, we thought that we would not have time to complete the tour (as we needed to vacate our apartment) but were very pleased to find that the tour guides were happy to be flexible. Our guide took us round separately... More

A guided tour will take approx 1 hour and one gets to follow the slat's path from underground to production area. Some equipment used to produce the salt is still intact, a short movie at the end of the tour gives you additional information. Interesting, however the musem could have a little more to show. It includes a children's section.
