Really fun and educational visit to a very old salt mine. They take you into the mine on a small train and the whole thing is a big adventure. Great for kids too! And excellent choice if you have a day to spare but the weather is bad.

Unique experience was the visit at the Salt Mine in Salzburg(Salzwelten Salzburg). We have to mention Ivana who was our kind, funny and well informed guide that took us beneath surface and explained everything about this important human accomplishment. We recommend it!

We had fun on the tour. The guide was super friendly and funny. The short videos were entertaining, though a little repetitive. Really enjoyed the slides and the "train" ride as well as the short boat trip.

Interesting tour. A little overpriced. But the biggest concern was the risk to COVID!
First of all, they cramp you with tons of other people. I mean you are literally seating between a stranger's legs and someone is in between your legs. Then they show you this fountain and tell everyone to put some on their finger and taste it. OMG! This is after everyone has touched common railings, etc. And they have people from all over the world clumped together. Yes, everyone is masked, but you can't touch common areas and then lick your finger. This place is causing local outbreaks!
Otherwise, it was mildly entertaining. Sliding down the miners slides was fun. The best park was hiking back to town. Great trail!

Dear Backpacker_0905,
thank you very much for your message and your feedback! We can ensure, that we take all the covid regulations seriously. Our staff is clearly instructed to make sure, that our visitors are tested or vaccinated. The staircase railings and other surfaces are getting disinfected every day. About our “salt well” I can ensure, that the brine comes directly fresh out of the mountain and it’s just used once.
Stay healthy and enjoy your trip.
Best regards, Harald & the Salzwelten-Team

Wonderful trip and adventure to center of a large and ancient salt mine. Tour was both in German and English and took us through a journey on the history of salt mining tracing roots back 2,600 years. Fun with the cart train ride into the mountain with two slides bringing us lower and lower. We crossed border from Australia to Germany and back with deepest point at 210 meters below the surface. Loved it

A great few hours. We really enjoyed this salt mine tour. It's presentations were clear . The exhibits were clear and understandable. Not like in the 'salt mine Berchtesgaden'. The films were informative. Easy to understand. The boat crossing was not a light and sound show but a film about the salt mine from beginning to end. Cool slides!

Very informative and interesting.
Starts with a video - then you put on some outer clothing. It is a bit colder underground. Head to a sort of train - where you straddle the seat. For some reason the train only went so far - then we walked - make sure you wear sturdy comfortable shoes. It was dark in some parts of the walk.
The visual effects were great. The guide was very good and spoke in both German and English- although he spoke a lot longer in German - so unsure of what we missed. The slides are fun.
You end up walking across the German - Austria border a couple times underground which is cool.
Well worth it for a couple hours

Absolutely one of the highlights of our Salzurg visit. Don't be scared by the high entry price of €30 (there are discounts for families), it is worth every penny. Guided tour (the only way to get in) is well organised. Tickets with time slot can be booked online. Temperature inside the mine is 10 deg, so put on long trousers and a vest. Reserve 2,5 hours in total for the visit, including the visit to the celtic village, which is not so interesting, except for a demonstration of the salt extraction.
We combined the mine visit with a visit to the Liechtensteinklamm, 45 mins further south.

Trains, slides, body suits to go inside the salt mines, the boat, the tunnel (Austria / Germany border in the middle), a lot of history. All of that put together along with a knowledgeable guide makes the place totally worth a visit. And of course a souvenir shop and a coffee shop to relax.

Buongiorno Stexyz!
Purtroppo non è possibile visitare le miniere di sale con una carrozzina elettrica. Ci sono moltissime scale durante la visita guidate e anche due scivoli da legno. Grazie per la tua comprensione!

I suggest to book in advance. But you can do it some days or the day before. If you are a small group, you can also come directly, with the risk to wait an hour for the next free tour.

If I buy the OBB combo ticket for Hallein, do I get a specific tour time slot? I am going there in Aug which is the busy season. I am worried that if we go with a general entrance ticket we will have to wait very long for the next available tour that can take the 4 of us.

Ciao Monicu_80!
