With an informative guide giving us the history of salt mining in this area going back centuries it is very interesting to learn where the wealth of Salzburg originated. It is a bit of fun riding on a little train into the depths of the mountain and also going down the slides as the miners of old used to do.... More

We were staying in BadGastein skiing and drove for 1 hr to go here. It was well worth the visit. It is a guided tour which takes around 3hrs. You go through the Mines on a little train, watch a couple of short movies about the history, take a short underground boat ride, and go down to 2 tall slides.... More

There is not much here. It is just an old salt mine where nothing is done today. It is more of an tour of where salt was extracted in olden times. Definitely worth skipping. The only reason for 2 points is some activities inside were ok.

we really enjoyed our visit here today. allow two hours, a lot of fun, and variation once deep underneath the ground. slides on wooden style roller coaster, hauled on bench seats, a ride on a boat deep down, and lots of fascinating information. amazing all round, and highly recommend.

We had a great time touring the Salt Mine with a group of high school band students from Ottawa, Canada. The guided tour was very well organized and the guide deserves high praise for the way she kept the students involved and interested in the history of the mine. We particularly enjoyed the slides and the boat ride across the... More

Find out how Salzburg got so important in a fun way visiting subterranean lakes, tunnel slides, mine train rides, cave cinemas in a safe and well structured tour.

A great tour of a very old salt mine. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. She explained the information in German for half the group and in English for us since we were the only 2 speaking English(we were very appreciative of her doing this). There is a lot to see & do--you ride into the mine... More

If you are in the neighborhood on a rainy day, you might not want to miss this. It's fun when you don't know much about the tour so we won't reveal any details. If you are interested in Austrian and German History then this is a must see, even if the weather is good. If you are travelling from Salzburg,... More

What fun we had, only we expected more in the area of history. Most of the talk was canned in a continuous movie as we walked, which made no sense. We wanted to hear historical facts and expected our guide to tell us stories from the past. That part was boring. I remembered being there 50 years ago, when it... More
