If you want to truly get a taste of the DR, a side trip to the Monument District which celebrates the heroes of the DR independence/revolution while in Santiago, will fit the bill. The language, the colors, the people, all alive and intense. Numerous places to eat, or just to sit and people watch. It is worth the trip. I spent more than a few hours here and each time, found something new and unique. I did not take the tour of the museum or get the history lesson, which is available during business hours.

Diego de Ocampo is a mountainous elevation within the Dominican Republic and the highest point of the Northern Cordillera. The mountain is located in the province and city of Santiago. It has a height of 1.249 meters above sea level. I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful protected area.
