Charming, small museum that covers the history and culture of the region.
Oct 2018 • Couples
We really enjoyed our visit to this very charming museum. There were many instructive exhibits concerning the culture of the area, but there were also some delightful recreations of period rooms and displays of local clothing, implements and agricultural tools.

Nice Insight Into History of Everyday Life
Oct 2018 • Couples
We were ready for a break from experiences like the Uffizi Gallery and enjoyed this nice, little, museum about the lives of sharecroppers in everyday life over centuries of Italian history. The staff was very welcoming and really did their best to bridge the language gap between Italian and English. We were given a booklet of display descriptions written in English. This little museum did more to provide English descriptions (understandable by people from numerous countries) than many large museums we've visited in Italy. We appreciated the empathy we gained regarding the hard working and living conditions sharecroppers and their families endured by seeing recreations of their homes' interiors, clothing worn, tools used, etc. We would recommend this museum!

Fascinating museum
Oct 2016 • Couples
Buonconvento is a delightful, beautiful, genuine Tuscan town and this museum gives an amazing insight into the world of the Mezzadria: a feudal way of life that survived in Italy into the mid to late 19th century. It contains rooms of peasant houses and videos of rural life, but is insightful, modern and cool in its analysis of the inevitability of change. The staff are great and Buonconvento itself worth spending time getting to know.

Ethnography, but also economics, useful to understand the Tuscan landscape that the whole world admires
Jun 2013 • Business
The museum (included in the network of museums managed by Siena Province Council) belongs mainly to the category of ethnographic museums, and is intended to illustrate the tangible and intangible heritage of Tuscan sharecroppers (and in particular of those in the Province of Siena) .
But unlike in many ethnographic museums, care is taken even to more strictly economic aspect of the contract of sharecropping (which no longer exists since the Sixties). This intention can then form the visitor's awareness also of the fact that the Tuscan sharecropping (which gave rise to a landscape that the whole world admires) is essentially a special case of a relationship between owners and peasants.
The museum being so carefully conceived and thought, it is a pity that the explanations are almost only in Italian.
However, it should be noted that in many cases "the facts speak for themselves": the museum devices and objects are effective in producing an understanding of the phenomena even for non-Italian speakers.
