Nice Example of a medieval castle
Oct 2019
This is a wonderful example of a medieval castle. It is a ruin but well maintained as a tourist attraction. Be prepared to do some uphill walking.

Beautiful medieval castle on beautiful spot
Jul 2019
High above Gorizia, the castle and surroundings are a well kept museum area with great views over the town and landscape.

Very fine exhibitions inside the castle - well worth the modest entrance fee.
Magnificent castle rooms in which one you can find - pedagogically arranged - an exhibition of medieval music instruments, including a small organ.
Concerts are also arranged regularly during the summer.

Access by foot from downtown or by car. Very easy to find with signs and a large parking lot a few steps from the castle entrance.

Lovely serene spot - not to be missed if you're in Gorizia!

Afternoon visit to Gorizia castle
Oct 2018 • Solo
The castle lies up on a hill overlooking the two parts of the town, Gorizia in Italy and Nova Gorica in Slovenia.
there is not so much places for cars so suggest to park in the twon and walk uphill, you will enjoy the old town building.
Gorizia has a very long history, which you will find explained on the 2nd (or 3rd floor) of the castle.
The entrance to the castle shows the Habsburg coat of arms, remembering to you that the town was part of the Austrian Empire, aka Görz.
Outside you can stroll and see from different side the panorama leaning out to the sadly renowned war battlefields in WW1.
With a small fee you are let enter the castle, with a collection of artifacts of Middle Age, as well as some rooms displaying early musical instruments.
A chapel has also been very nicely arranged.
At groundfloor you can visit the jail cells, as well as the castle kitchen and foodstuff warehouse.
Very good exhibit, worth every minute spent there for the history lovers.

Worth it
Aug 2018 • Friends
Worth visiting if you want to learn everything about Gorizia's history. I would just suggest translating educational boards into English. The castle has a great view over the whole city.
