Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was another fun and amazing drive that took us to incredibly beautiful locations, scattered with historic sites. Well worth the time.

A must do if you plan to travel the Ring of Kerry. We traveled toward the end of August on a beautiful day. Pick another day if there’s thick cloud cover or stormy weather. Stunning views of water and landscape at every turn. Don’t let the narrow roads discourage you…we found that to be half the fun. Everyone on the road was very patient.

One of the most amazing experiences in Ireland. No one should miss it. Truly one of Ireland’s jewels. Once af the cliffs don’t forget to look back. One can see as far as Carrantouhill. Amazing views of Kerry mountains and lakes.

Best part of the Ring of Kerry. The Kerry Cliffs are the obvious highlight. But we enjoyed time on Valentia Island - including the Bray Head loop and Geokaun Mountain (maybe those are slightly off the Skellig Ring). The Ballinskellig Castle and Abbey were worthy stops too. Just loved the landscape on the drive.

We were going to leave this drive out, thinking it was not worth the extra time and we are so happy we changed our minds. We started/ended in Waterville and this was an easy day trip, with lots of time to get out and explore. This is the kind of drive that you stop at every single pull off because the view is even better than the last, allow yourself the time to do this and it will be worth it! The pass is great, panoramic views of one of the most beautiful corners of Ireland. The chocolate factory is a MUST, as are the cliffs, but you will find the part of Ireland here that you can not describe, only experience.

This is part of the Ring of Kerry and part of the beautiful scenery and breathtaking coastline of western Ireland. The road can be challenging for North Americans, especially with manual transmission, but it's the best way to see Ireland and this area in particular.

The road is small but well worth the visit. Just drive and relax, lot of stops to take pictures. If you are in town, don’t hesitate and do it.

Is there a recommended direction to drive around the Skellig Ring? Clockwise or counter clockwise?

It seems people take it from whatever direction they're travelling from: from Waterville it would be clockwise, from Cahersiveen it would be counter clockwise. Personally, i'd recommend clockwise. As soon as you turn off the N72 on to the Skellig Ring, Ballinskelligs Bay opens up in front of you, a beautiful view..
Then you have Madeleine Maria Weber Photography Gallery, Reenroe beach, Skellig Pottery, Tig Rosie's Dungeagan, Fermoyle Pottery, Café Cois Trá (Barbara's Café), Ballinskelligs Beach, Bolus Head Loop walk, St. Finian's Bay, Skellig Chocolate Factory, Kerry Cliffs, Portmagee (Cois Cuain Gifts, The Moorings, Fisherman's Bar, Skellig Mist Café), Skellig Boat Trips, cross the bridge to Valentia Island, Skellig Experience Centre, turn left clockwise around the island, Brayed Walk Loop, Geokaun Mountain & Fogher Cliffs, Valentia Ice Cream, Valentia Lighthouse, Glanleam House & Gardens, Knightstown (Valentia Island Caravan & Camping, The Pod Gifts & Café, Boston Bar, Knightstown Café, The Royal Valentia, Valentia Island Sea Sports, The Coffee Dock), Chapelstown (The Ring Lyne), then hop on the ferry across to Renard (The Point Bar/Restaurant)..
Anything else i think off i'll add again here..

I would like to leave the ring of Kerry and take the ferry to Valencia Island and then take the bridge at Portmagee and head south around the Skellig Ring and then connect back with N70 to head to Waterville. Any ideas how long of a drive this is? I know it all depends on how many stops but just trying to figure out drive time and if it's a doable excursion from the ring of Kerry. Thanks for any help!

Depends how fast you drive. Could do it in 1hr. But take it easy stop in Knightstown for a Guinness. Then stop in portmagee allow 2-3 hrs.
