I believe this is a "must do" if you are within 2 hours of Valentia. Upon arrival, the leader approached us sharing that landing on the island was not possible due to high winds. We could get a full refund or go on a tour around the islands. We chose the latter. The driver/guide spoke clearly and gave great information. (If you are someone who gets seasick, do not take the trip as you will indeed become ill), but if you are like me, the rockiness will not bother you. This was a second trip for the couple we were with and they shared that the first time they went (Aug 2019), the sea was like glass.

Amazing day. Sadly terrible weather happened which made the boat ride over ‘interesting’ to say the least but the boatman gave us safety instructions before hand, checked in with us during the ride over, put our bags inside and offered ponchos. Skellig itself is stunning and I was gutted that the fog meant you couldn’t see a lot but that’s the weather for you! Communication from Casey’s beforehand was brilliant and couldn’t fault them for their service.

We did the morning tour around the Skellig Islands with Casey Tours and it was fantastic! Opposed to many other boats we were sheltered from the rain and ocean waves. They frequently checked if we were okay (we are a family with two young children). When we arrived at the Skellig Islands we received a lot of interesting information. We also had enough time to look around and take pictures. The crew even made family pictures of everyone who wanted to. On the way back our sons could steer the boat, which was great! Thank you for giving us an unforgettable experience at Skellig Islands!

A day before our sailing, we were informed that there was a chance of it not going ahead, we woke up to a call informing us that it was going ahead despite the weather (strong wind, extremely choppy waves, rain, blinding fog etc.) we travelled to the dock on my mothers birthday as it was her present to go to the island. Before sailing there was no life jackets, no proper seats and about 4 handles in total for a 12 person boat. As a result of this, the waves were about 10 feet high at times sending us into the air for 50% of the trip, we were thrown around the boat going at full speed which made my mother violently sick. When vomiting, she was thrown a bag to get sick into but could barely hold it properly to do so as she had to hang onto the boat for dear life. If that wasn’t bad enough, upon arrival the fog was so heavy that you could barely see your own finger in front of you which made the endurance of the painful boat ride worth nothing. We could not cancel as we had paid months in advance and we trusted the judgement of the crew that the experience would be worth it. The sickness resulted in my mother missing her milestone birthday party arranged in the hotel that night. It is clear that the company care nothing more than about the money rather than the experience of the customers as there was not one highlight on the trip for any involved due to the weather and they went ahead with it knowing they had gotten the money. I do believe the island is beautiful on a nice calm day, if you choose to do this tour, do not go with this company
