Walk the citadelle and visit the museum! The exhibitions are excellent. Take the time to feel the history of the place

Museum is ok, explanation about Citadelle ia quite nice (also in English); rest of museum about Corsica history is ok, as some other reviews state a bit random and French only.
However, for us, the best part was the ability to walk around the entire Citadelle and see also the old part on top of the hill, with tremendous views of Corte and Corsica.
Without that 3-4 stars, with it 5.

They have a really nice tour to walk, 2 km taking you around the city and providing you interesting information about the city. Quiet, practical and really informative.

We were taken to the Corte Citadel as part of a tour. We didn't find the museum very interesting. It is totally in French, though our guide was explaining everything in English. We were more interested in seeing more of the citadel walls and views, but after exiting the museum we were taken down to the church and then to the main square. So maybe we missed the part we would have been most interested in - I don't know how we would have got up there.

The Citadel in Corte is unique in that the whole thing has pretty much been re-purposed as a museum of Corsican history. If you pay to enter the Museum you will also be able to walk the grounds and winding staircases of the remains of the Citadel and also look down on all the people staring up at the Citadel from the Belvedere station below.

Great history, but a tough hike for oldsters like us. Excellent views, that really reflect its strategic advantages.

People may think about vacation in Corsica because of the sea, but there is much to see inside.
When arriving to Corte, you see from far away this citadel surrounded by the old city.
Climb until the platform to have a 360 degree landscape on the city, and much more impressive on the mountains. This could incite you to a trek to one the two valleys starting there down the hill.

Weren’t quite sure what to make of this place. To climb up to the citadel you have to go through the museum and once inside you get the feeling that rather more has been spent on the swanky building than on its selection of artefacts.

There is a room full of what look like Ku Klux Klan outfits, all slightly different from different religious chapters, a room full of old pots, one of maps etc, but no particular rhyme or reason, eg: it doesn’t seem to take you through Corsican history century by century or region by region, it’s all just a bit random.

Nice walk up to the citadel with lovely views from the top, but perhaps more of the budget could have been spent on a bit of renovation and some decent signage as there was no info about any of it to help us get a feel for why it was there, unless it was buried somewhere. However there is apparently an audio guide in their defence.

As someone mentioned, there is little info in English which didn’t matter to me as I speak French, and was not expected, but just a warning to those who don’t, as you may come away even less informed than we were

We visited here with a guide who took us up to the citadel on the little train. Unfortunately his English was not that good but he was enthusiastic about his island’s history and did his best. The museum at the citadel is also interesting.

an eagle’s nest perched precariously right at the top of the hill. Solid ramparts surround the citadel. Good walk up.
