Beautiful moderate 11 mile walk through mountain scenery
Sep 2020
Beautiful there and back walk through mountain scenery to a bridge. Well formed path and almost impossible to get lost. The trail, however, is very rocky and climbs steadily for most of the outward leg so whilst it is not difficult you do need to have a reasonable degree of fitness to complete this hike comfortably. It also has very little shade so gets pretty hot - lots of water is a must.

We used the Rother walking guide for Corsica for details of this walk. Interestingly this states the walk is just over 12km when in fact is is 11 miles! We are a fairly fir couple in our mid 50s and the return journey took us 4 hours.

There is paid parking available at the trail head.

Much difference in people visiting nice and truly unmotorized nature
Jun 2019 • Family
Only by foot to visit. Ages old path with many different aspects of Corsican mountain animals and flowers and geology. Many locals use this as running place. We were (being flat landers ) with our age, exhausting en overweight sensitive to overheating. 2 liters per person for a walk which took us 5 instead of 3 hour is minimum when temperatures is 28 Celsius

A longish hike but wekk worth the trek to the bridge at Passerelle Russulinu
May 2018 • Couples
We were blessed with great conditions but rather warm although only 31 May. Lots doing it as a well known hike. The scenery gets better as you climb into the mountains . The trail follows above the valley all the way. The last mile is stunning..in the first mile in the morning we came upon an elderly chap being carried down the path only a mile from Corte after suffering a heart attack, poor chap, which was not the start we wanted !.

Stunning walk
Jul 2018 • Family
Took a walk in here - fantastic scenery, new vista's unfolding around every corner, stunning. Family of four (kids 11 and 8), walked up to the bridge, obligatory swim then a wander back - all in the July heat :-) Then went for a swim near the end to cool off again - great day out, walked from our hotel in Corte - wish I had places like this on my doorstep!

Beautiful walk with a swim at the end!
Jul 2018 • Family
The books say that the walk from Corte to the bridge takes about 3 to 4 hours there and back, but including stopping for a swim and a picnic we took a good 7 hours!. (Round trip was 9 miles). From the car park on Rue St Joseph the path is well marked with Orange markers. The walk is a gradual climb but goes up and down....nothing too steep but definitely worth sensible walking shoes or sandals. The scenery along the way is stunning and on a hot day not much shade so take a hat and plenty of sun cream (more shade in the pm as the sun moves over). There are one or two tributaries to cool off by on your way but swimming in the pools at the bridge is the real treat. I understand the refuge further on is an even greater treat but in the heat we couldn’t make it that far in a day.

If you love a great hike with great scenery; walk this valley
Jul 2017 • Couples
Stayed in Corsica for 2 weeks and for our last 2 nights decided on Corte. I had brought my walking boots but not done much walking as it was so hot so on our last day I dragged by hubby through the Tavignano Valley. We had no idea how long it was (it turned out to be 11.5 miles return). It was so hot but easy to follow; just follow the orange paint splashes. Very exposed to the sun but I cannot tell you how stunning the scenery is. I was standing under a tree thinking I can't go on and a man came past and said...10 minutes to the rock pools and he was right (some people turned back as you have no idea how close you are to the bridge and the pools). I went in my underwear and hubby went skinny dipping; no pics...didn't want to scare you ha ha
It took us 7 hours and we had a torrential rain storm on the way back which gave us some relief but the rocks were slippy...Go do it; it is so worth the effort

This review is about the walk to the bridge 'Ponte di u Russulinu' which is on the route to Refuge a Sega. It is part of the Mare a Mare walk.
The trailhead is well sign posted and there is a car park very close (it charges for parking but not much).
The walk will take about two and a half hours to get to the bridge and it will be slightly quicker on the way back as it will be mainly downhill.
Take sunscreen and plenty of water as there is very little shade on this walk and it will be the heat that slows you down. The track is marked with orange markers painted on rocks and is well worn so it is hard to get lost. If you don't see the markers after a while just retrace your steps till you find it.
We set off early in the morning to avoid the heat. We took a packed lunch as there is no food on route.
Walking to the bridge is a mainly up hill path. After about 35ish minutes you will come to an information sign and a small spring where you can top up your water. It wasn't a strong spring so not sure it lasts into the summer.
After another 35ish minutes you come to a shady place by a stream. There is a shepherds hut and another spring. This is where a lot of people stop and turn back as it makes a nice 2 hour round trip. This is also the last chance to top up your water till you get to the bridge.
It's about one hour and 30 minutes to the bridge from here. The trail continues to climb with occasional short flat stretches and even some downhill bits! There are great views and when we did it, loads of flowers and the smell of pine trees.
Eventually you will arrive at the bridge, which is obviously not the original bridge. Cross over and go down to the banks of the river where there are shady places and nice pools to relax by. In May the water was still very cold, too cold for a swim!
Once you have spent as much time as you want just head back the way you came.
As mentioned, an early start is recommended. We started at 8.00am and probably got back after 2.00pm on the way back we passed many people heading up the trail, some even as we got back! I suspect many don't make to the bridge as the heat is a killer. It was 27 C when we did it and there is little shade.
Corsica is famous for the quality of its walks and they say that this is one of best day walks. Definitely worth doing, you won't regret it!

Canyon-Corse trip down Tavignano
Jul 2016
Brilliant family day canyoning with Canyon-Corse. Not cheap but a 3 hour trip was actually about 7 hours and such a fantastic day out.
Remember sun hats, cream and water as its a 2 hr trek up the valley (at quite a pace - my 9 and 11 yr lids were the only children and it was pretty tough but presume they tailor it to the age group) to start canyoning and it was very hot and you have to carry a rucksac with wetsuit etc in it.
Canyoning was quite physically demanding but you didn't have to do the jumps unless you wanted, jumps and dives varied from a 3m jump to a 17m jump for the very brave!!! Plus lots of boulder hopping and sliding down water falls - really good fun. Remember your clothes will need to fit in a waterproof container and you'll need a good lunch and energy bars

Poor signage at trailhead
Jun 2015 • Couples
It was difficult to find good information about this trail. We parked at the Citadel and visited the tourist office, who provided a map which was not very helpful for finding the desired trail. There is a pay lot at the Citadel but below this there is a free lot which is where the trails begin. There are three trails with signs here. The main trail for the Vallee du Tavignano is marked by the second sign that indicates it is headed towards "Passerelle di U Russulinu (and) Refuge di A Sega". Not knowing which sign to follow, we chose the first trail towards "Baignade Tavignanu Lavu Matre" which leads down to a path which hugs close to the edge of the river and leads to several pools. The area was beautiful and peaceful and the trail easy. The trail we chose does not get into the Vallee nearly as far and doesn't reach the Genoese bridges. The third sign marks the trail that leads to "L'Arcu di U Scandulaghju, L'Arche, and Bergeries di E Padule."

Great scenery and some hidden gems
We were simply driving and stopping whenever the scene looked great and often it did. I had read about a couple of Genoese Bridges ( no longer used but in excellent condition ) and we found 2 in the vicinity of Altiana. Idyllic photos with crystal clear waters flowing and wonderfully gracious and picturesque bridges. Loved them.
