We loved seeing the huge brushes used by Kozan to make his caligraphy banners, as well walking around the beautifully preserved inner rooms of the compound (and playing the stringed instruments in the salon.) Some beautiful examples of Takai and Hokusai's work. It's small and lacks much English explanation, though there's an English brochure you can get for free at... More

Overall: Kozan Takai Museum well exceeded my expectations. Details: the property, as we are told, was the residence of a prosperous merchant, artistic dilettante, and patron of Hokusai: Visual Artist of the Day. How exciting can that be? Well, maybe, just about as compelling as the back story behind Maecenas: no slouch in his own right to the artistic results... More
