I visited Playa de los Frailes twice in March, once with my family and once with my friends. Both times, we spent pretty much the entire day on the beach and loved every minute of it! We paid a taxi driver $15 to take us there from Puerto López and to pick us up again at a pre-arranged time (we... More

This beach is really amazing, is the most beautiful in all ruta de el sol. I really recomend doing the path that start at the begining, is a 2 hour walking rout is pretty easy and you can get to 2 other beaches before going to los frailes. Both are really nice specially the second one. After the two beaches... More

I'm not sure if this warrants to be the best beach in South America or even Ecuador but it's the best beach we've been to so far and definitely worth a visit! At time of writing - it closes at 4 pm and we've heard that folks can't really arrive after 3:30 pm. When you get there you can rent... More

If you are in or near Puerto Lopez, do not miss going to this beach! It is clean, free, and completely surrounded by Machililla National Park. Bathroom and shower facilities there, plus a kiosk with touristy stuff. We stopped by on a Sunday and it was fairly crowded. Came back on a Tuesday morning at 9am and had the entire... More

I was told this was the most beautiful beach in all of Ecuador, and while I've only stopped at 5 beach locations, I agree! Hike to the viewpoint, then down the other side toward Isla Tortuga. It's absolutely breathtaking. Note that there is security to check your bag before walking to the beach and you can only stay until 4... More

My husband and I went to Los Frailes for a few hours during our trip. This is a beautiful beach that you absolutely need to walk down to take in the entire place and surrounding hills. We did not do the hike through the national park to view the beaches from above as it was way too hot and did... More

Los frailes is one of those beaches that u normally only see in movies, the area is well taken care of, the water is a bit strong so watch with kids other than that , just lay back and relax

Although this once hidden gem has become extremely much more popular since entrance to the beach became free, (as it really should be!) you shouldn't miss a visit to Los Frailes Beach if in the area. Most will tell you that it is one of the most photographed beaches in all of America, and once you are there you will... More

An absolutely gorgeous mile-long crescent of soft sand & warm water. It's in a National Park a bit north of Puerto Lopez, entrance is free but they will want to check your ID at the entrance, so have something available.
