Great for views along the river. Peaceful, quiet walks along clearly laid out paths. Our dog enjoyed it, too! We were there mid week. I suspect it will be much busier at weekends and during school holidays.

Whilst not being too long, this route is ideally situated next to the picturesque river and allows you to quickly get away from the hustle and bustle of the shopfronts.

Me and my lover (Kenneth) embarked upon a leisurely stroll across lovers walk.
Things haven’t been so flavoursome in the bedroom as of late so I found this gesture both romantic and wholesome as we look to find that spark to set our romance alight once more.
Things were going great until Kenneth stepped in a pile of dog muck, PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOGS.
Overall, a lovely walk tainted by muck gate.

Been a few years since I visited Matlock bath last time was a gorgeous busy place this time was a disappointment, lovers walk was fine just the gardens and the main street it was a very dirty forgotten place looks like covid has really let this place down needs an uplift. All I could see were chips shops lost count of how many there were alot of them shut down, surely one street doesn't need that many chippys . We were looking for a bakery for food to take out like crusty bread, cakes ,sandwiches extra there was nothing just chips & burgers. So sad to see such a once thriving place like that .

There is a choice of terrain with this walk. Either take a level walk along the river or climb up the steep incline and walk along the ridge and back own at the other end. With either, one can then walk back along the river or cross the road and walk back along the pavement (and maybe grab a coffee in one of the cafes).
Sadly two things ruined our walk. Firstly the amount of litter was appalling - it's a long time since I've seen any public place so filthy with discarded plastic bottles, take away cartons, plastic cutlery, etc
Secondly, the climb is very steep and the path is not well maintained. Despite disclaimer notices from the council it's not unreasonable to expect a better level of maintenance that this walk appears to receive. Unless you are sure-footed you might not want to attempt the climb.

Good walks with benches and facilities for the children. No toilets anywhere, however and the far side is only accessible from one of the two bridges..

Visited here yesterday for the first time in over a year and must say compared to our last visit the gardens looked unkept and in places overgrown.
Thought with Covid-19 the park’s department would have had loads of time to keep the place ship shape.

Extremely difficult to isolate any one favourite bit as the whole experience is just simply one great big adventure. This is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed. Derwent Gardens for the picnic. The river for a boat trip. Lovers Walk beside the river, extremely romantic. Lovers Walk up the hillside thru the woods, gently does it... it will literally take your breath away. Lovers Walk along the escarpment edge, electrifying, stunning views, sweet tasting clean air, on top of the world... literally. Kids... if you have them, keep your eye on them... SERIOUSLY.

Opposite Fishpond restaurant depends how long you want to walk lasts from 20 min for mile to about 40 minutes for 3 miles there is a bridge in-between so you can choose how long you want to walk and weather!!!

We are looking for a walk in The Peak District/Derbyshire, that is ideally in a loop so we can return to where we started and pushchair friendly. A pub would be nice also to get lunch but not essential. Can anyone advise if this walk meets the criteria? Or failing that, is there one that is? Thanks

We walked a little loop along one side of the river, across a bridge, and back down the other side to our start point. Not very far. There must be a tourist guide showing the walk somewhere on line. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Roughly how long is the walk? Is it suitable for ordinary shoes? And where does it begin and end?

The walk is approx 2 miles - but I suggest strong shoes as it was up steps which were very slippery (it was October with lots of leaves about). It is a strenuous walk up and then down it was fine (but still slippery if wet). Matlock Tourist Information have a great Matlock Parks guide which we used for all the sections - did them all - High Tor Grounds is also great, but steeper than the Lovers Walk. Hope you enjoy it. Just back from walking in Gozo - now there are some hills there.
