Great way to spend a few hours

Our mine Tour Guide was Tony, a very knowledgable and friendly guide who made it even more interesting. Daughter (14) really enjoyed it, especially the crystals / stones in the shop! Couldn't get her away from the panning 😂 Definitely recommend

Interesting museum. Enjoyed the mine tour with Chris who was fascinating to listen to, he told us about old and newer mining practices in Derbyshire and the geology of the area.

Talking with the guide Chris. We were fortunate in that we were the only two on the tour of the mine which they held open for us. Chris knew a lot about the mining and was honest to say he didn't know if he didn't - which was not often. A really worthwhile interesting
and informative visit. Regretfully we ran out of time to visit the museum so cannot comment on that.

Friendly and Accomodating staff

Took an autistic student with ADHD to the mine, we were the only people on the tour and our guide (Chris) was fantastic at allowing the student to move at his own pace and was very patient and calm with him to avoid confrontation but still holding boundaries.
My student also loved scrambling through the tunnels in the museum and all staff were very friendly. (He even choose to stay when he could have gone to the skate park!)

Great Tour brought mining to life!
Aug 2021 • Family
We took our 13 year old daughter for a trip to Matlock in the Summer holidays. We did the temple Mine tour as she has an interest in stones and rock collecting . Chris was our tour guide, we were in a small group with 1 other couple. Chris was very knowledgeable, gave time, and made this informative about the history if mining and the miners . It was really interesting. Chris left time for questions and it gave us a glimpse of life fir the incredible people who would of mined In this area so long ago .
Panning for Gold at the end was the finale and our daughter was thrilled to find her own fools gold that she could take home

This was well worth the small charge that is made for such a historical experience.

Thank you Chris for a great tour

Interesting visit to The museum and mine
Sep 2021 • Couples
Visited the museum and were lucky that it was quiet and had a tour of the mine just the two of us with Tony. Tony was extremely knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the tour. It was very interesting and well worth the visit. He also told us some interesting facts about Matlock. We were even able to take the dog.

An unexpected gem (pun intended!)

Our visit was a spontaneous one and I'm very glad we stopped. We really enjoyed our tour of the mine with Chris; he's a great guide, very knowledgeable and it was a fun and interesting way to spend an hour or so. We visited the museum after the mine but its probably better to do the museum first! Recommended if you're in the area!

An interesting, good value experience
Sep 2021
We visited the Mining Museum and also went down the Temple mine with Chris as our guide. This was a very interesting and good value experience (a ticket purchase is valid for 12 months for multi visits), which we can thoroughly recommend. Chris is a friendly and very knowledgeable guide; all in all this was a lovely afternoon out.

A very pleasant surprise

When the weather forecast is for pouring rain and you need an inexpensive indoor activity.
The museum is really good. Although there are lots of "things in glass cases", there are also loads of things to entertain children. Especially the fake mine tunnels (even some of the adults gave them a go!). Be warned, they're very narrow and dark - not for the claustrophobic!
Staff on the entrance were extremely friendly. Well worth a visit.
