What a gem of a historical museum. We could have spent more time than we did and, unfortunately, it was the last site we explored in this area. It should have been the first. Nice layout, easy to absorb the information, and so many interesting displays to see, but it’s not at all overwhelming.

I was amazed by the photos and history of Waterford, and the time frame when my ancestors lived there. Highly recommend going there. The staff is also wonderful for answering questions.

I facilitated a group outing for young adults with autism to the Waterford county museum. The staff were so pleasant to deal with, they offered to stay on late to ensure our group got to see the museum!

They were very welcoming, understanding and provided great insights into each of the artifacts and items on show.

The curator gave his time telling us interesting facts, allowed the group to ask questions, take breaks as needed and have some fun throughout!

We will definitely be back again soon!

Thank you so much 🥰

I visited Waterford County Museum today and really enjoyed stepping in. It's free to enter and quite small so you won't need to set aside much more than 30-60 mins.
It has quite a comprehensive story to tell for such a small place, I really liked the section on Waterford's glacial history. The section on the famine and emigration was perhaps the most fascinating part. It has plenty of exhibits and info panels are very detailed. There's a good section on the War of Independence, the World wars and a small sports section amongst others.
Well worth your time.

We came over from the U.K.
It’s over a year now..Sadly nobody got back to us
The people we met there were friendly and said they would pass on details.
We rang a month before, we called in twice. Left a phone number and an email
We particularly wanted to speak Eddie Cantwell (genealogist) as my wife believed they may have been a family connection. He never contacted us.My wife was very disappointed!

We enjoyed our visit. A small local museum, but with lots of history recounted about local people and notable residents of the county. Enjoyed it very much. Spent over an hour reading all the signage. Perhaps more for adults than children. Very friendly staff and free.

I stumbled across this by accident, unfortunately I didn't have time to have a good look around. The museum was closed the following day so I didn't have a chance to go back.
It's only small but from what I saw it was very interesting

This is a wonderful museum featuring the history of the County from early settlement to the 20th century. There is a wealth of exhibits, information panels, paintings, ships' fittings, photographs and more. Friendly staff and available to enthusiastically answer any query. The museum is located in the former Town Hall and FREE admission.
