We visited Montalcino intent on sampling the world famous Brunello wines made there. After a drive that revealed many quintessential views of the Tuscan countryside we arrived at this hilltop outpost. The fortress is in good repair and offers a 360 degree view. Entry is...More

This fort is still around and solid. These forts are amazing and I believe the trapezoidal indentations are for the archers to defend the fort. Walked around the top parapet and the views are tremendous.

This is a neat place to walk around after seeing the town. There's not much inside but the building itself is impressive.

You enter through the wine bar at the fortress. Nice views but would be nice if they had some history written up or artifacts displayed

We had visited Montalcino twice and enjoyed the sweeping views from the walls of the old Fortezza built in the 14th century. The mighty fortress proudly protected the hill town of Montalcino at various times and is in remarkable condition now.

Famous for its Brunello, Montalcino's fortress is a place to try some wines before buying a bottle or three in its shop. The views of the countryside from its battlements are very good. And be sure to visit some of the shops and stop for...More
