If you are visiting Montalcino be sure to stop in to the museo. It won't take long but is very educational!

Small Medieval Museum ....
Jun 2015 • Couples
The small & cozy museum houses a treasure trove of Medieval art pieces presented nicely within the stone confines of a former convent. Not too many tourists - they must have been outside tasting Brunello! Also a cellar area with archeological finds including some Etruscan pieces, nice. You'll enjoy and learn at the same time. ...

Small but some stunning stuff. Well worth a visit

I spent nearly two hours in here mooching over the gorgeous 12th-14th century works of art in this museum, and in all that time only spotted four other people. Much undervisited, this place is worth the visit, fairly cheap and to be honest a massive relief from the somewhat overwhelming presence of Brunello outlets Montalcino seems to have on every corner.

A former convent, the building has a good display of works from around the area which if you are a mediaeval fan will surprise and please you. The later stuff is rather also ran and to be honest the cabinets of liturgical garments (worn by Bishop for two hundred years, we haven't got room for it in the Sacristy, it doesn't fit the current bishop's taste but we don't want to chuck it out) and beautiful but of their time chalices and silverware which are a staple of parts of diocesan museums has long since ceased to be more than passing interest. But there's not too much of it here

The stained glass from St Augustine's church next door is just wonderful and needs fifteen minutes gazing to really appreciate it

A good archaeological display in the basement even if the continuity and the English are a little odd.

You can get a combined ticket to here and the battlements of the fortezza for six euros.

The church of Saint Augustine, gothic with beautiful frescoes under restoration, is closed for restoration currently but once a week they do guided tours round the conservation. They also open the doors to let you gaze in and see the conservators at work. Truly beautiful.

Possibly a Beautiful Experience

This is one of the most beautiful museums one comes across anywhere-certainly Montalcino. There are beautiful works of art that are of historical perspective as well. But I have mostly come across several pieces while going to the toilette during wine tasting at an event at the Museum. Naturally, one is shivering and cannot stop over for more than a quick look. But what one sees during these short moments is awesome and very pleasing to the eys

Excellent museum

Provided a good understanding of the art and history of the surrounding area and was not overwhelming or tedious as some museums can be.

Fascinating collection, beautifully curated

This museum is a little gem and seems (unfortunately) not often visited. The descriptions on every case are detailed and fascinating. I know that the museum of Etruscan history in Chiusi is supposed to be much more extensive, but this was a good introduction. There are many important pieces of medieval Christian church painting.
