I was disappointed by how small the enclosures (just cages in most cases) of the animals were. At least two were pacing. There is a lot of variety though, and you can see the golden frogs this valley is famous for.
Worst “zoo” I have ever visited. The quality of living for every single animal is so pitiful ! Cages are way too small and most of them don’t have any protection for rain or sun. We saw the 2 tapirs standing in nothing but mud....More
Really enjoyed the zoo. In visiting Panamá I looked forward to seeing the wildlife. This zoo offered a lot of Panamanian culture. They have an amazing bird area for the bird lovers. I highly recommend anyone in the area to check out the zoo. Only...More
Firstly... This little gem is up in the cool mountains of El Valle.
The town itself is super cute, with shopping, tours, etc. If I had the money I would buy a 2nd home there, and I would have the best of both worlds...
Its a little, interesting zoo where you can go see the Golden Frog that is famous in the area. This zoo clearly does not have the infrastructure of zoo's in well developed countries so some of the enclosures look worn. This is to be expected,...More

It was an enjoyable afternoon walking around the zoo looking at the animals. The enclosures are not like top zoos, but this is a small zoo that appeared clean and the animals did not appear distressed.
Quite small zoo but good place to see poisonent frogs, even the golden one which is rare in the wild. Some of the animals doesnt have good conditions but it is a nice visit especilay for kids. You might see some wild monkeys roaming around...

The Zoo el Nispero is a sanctuary for animals that were confiscated by the government authority. Every animal comes in "as-is." Because it's not a regular zoo, finances are hard to come by and are privately funded. Of course, the government would not subsidize a place that houses animals confiscated by them. Therefore, the upkeep, maintenance, and care are minimal at best.
