Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This beach is a MUST when visiting Santa Teresa. If you are looking for waves and for a palm tree to relax after your session, this is the spot. Walking to the North, natural pools can be found in low tide. Take water and fruit with you, there is no restorant at the beach! Two parking available, South and North!

Loved this beach. Bf is a surfer and best place for waves too. Also if you are learning to surf, best beach so far.

Playa Hermosa was just what we were looking for- a beautiful beach with clean water, soft sand, miles of beach to walk in both directions, tide pools and beautiful sunsets. Lots of surf schools at this beach- so I think it is safer than Santa Teresa beach, and for sure less crowded.

This place was amazing!! Make sure you go during low tide and just wait to be dazzled by the array of fish. We saw puffer fish, octopus, eels, sea urchin, moorish idol, cornet fish, .... and more. Bring water shoes as getting out to the tide pool can be hard on the feet.

My favorite beach! They sell ceviche in the parking lot, along with coconut milk that's good. The waves are great and not to rough. We love to watch the sunsets here as well.

I felt most comfortable at this beach with my kids. The waves didn't seem as strong and crazy like at playa Carmen or Santa Teresa. We paid the parking lot guy the $2. We also ate at Colours Cafe just up the street - yum. A great beach.

This is a must see location just north of Tamarindo, beautiful beach, warm water. Nothing to complain about but easy living.

Visited this beach at low tide. Was a bit rocky, but nice tide pools. Plenty of shade for those who needed a break from the sun.

uncrowded, with a good variety of waves depending on the tide and swell conditions. This sandy bottom beach as the perfect place for us to learn (and re-learn) to surf!

sandy beach, little to no rocks, consistent 2 - 3 foot surf, long rides. Parking requires a 1000 colones donation ($1.70) to an attendant who will watch your car for you. Well worth it so pay it.

I’ll be staying in Playa Hermosa for 4 days & want to visit those towns & beaches nearby towns & beaches. What’s the most cost efficient way to get around? I’m willing to do public transportation if it’s not too time consuming. But also wondering if renting a moped is an option.

I will be in Liberia and planning to visit Playa Hermosa for the sunset. How can I get there? Is there any bus? How much does a taxi cost?

We're traveling to Costa Rica first time next week. Are there restaurants in the area or do we need to pack food/drinks?
Any suggestions for me?

Always bring water, it is hot. You can only get around by 4x4 and quads or ATVs are best. There are places in town that rent if your accommodations does not. The food is excellent! Everything is farm to table no matter where you eat. We were there in November for a week and never ate at the same restaurant, other then the resort for breakfast. Sun is up from 5:30-5:30 everyday and not a lot of nightlife, everyone shuts down fairly early. I would recommend snacks in your room. There are not many options beach front, for restaurants. Please talk to locals the have the best advise!! It does not matter if you are looking for pizza or a typical Tico meal, they always point you in the right direction. We even went to a Tico hang out only open on Sundays. We speak spanglish and the waiter only spoke Spanish. A bilingual Tico was happy to translate. The food was amazing and the beer cold. Don't be afraid to explore!

Hello,
Can you tell me how to get there? From nadi? We are celebrating out 45th anniversary and really love to snorkel. Are there any specials for late June early July?
Thank you

Playa Hermosa is a short distance (3-4 miles north of Santa Teresa) off of the main road. Look for a small sign on the left that says "Colors" sort of faded. Take that left on rough road to ocean and Playa Hermosa (about 1/2 mile). Haven't snorkled in that area. Late June early July may be poor for snorkling since rains begin and carry sediment to ocean making beaches a little murky. I am not a good source for recommendaitons on areas to snorkel. Have done it few times in last 8 visits but not impressed. Don't get expectations up for nice visibility. Beautiful beach for more so for surfing and sunbathing. Cajundreamer
