Hidden beach

What an amazing little beach which is like nothing we have ever seen before. Millions of shells are everywhere. How they all accumulate here and nowhere else nearby is a mystery but this place is a must see. Not the easiest of places to find or access but we'll worth the effort. It's about 100 metres from the seat at the end of Pier Road. Look for a path up through the vegetation and trees or clamber over the rocks. Not a trek for the infirm unfortunately and be sure to wear decent footwear.

Absolutely a hidden gem
Aug 2020 • Family
We were lucky enough to visit Tarbert in mid-August when it was extremely hot, fantastic weather.

We followed our noses and walked up past the car ferry point and continued up the road to the very end, where there is a bench and a small memorial for some ‘lost at sea’ sailors.

My daughter and I felt the urge to scale the coastal rocks here and were rewarded by finding Shell Beach - we then worked our way back to the rest of our party via the hillside woodland path - it comes out 180 degrees behind the bench/memorial - it’s very hard to see if you don’t know it’s there.

We spent 90mins on this beach as if it were our own private beach and suntrap - absolutely idyllic - don’t miss it, one of our holiday highlights!

Unusual, very pretty, hidden beach

Walk to as far as road goes from harbour and take little footpath near the clear DO NOT SIGN. Walk through wood and you emerge to a pink twinkly beach. Even on a rainy dull day the beach has a lovely glow to it. Worth a peep. Take a picnic if nice weather it is really quite special. The short walk has a few boulders, muddy path and steps to negotiate so not for people with mobility issues.

Hidden Away
Aug 2019
Right at the end of the road leaving Tarbert, there is this beach consisting solely of crushed shells. It is hidden away from the road, so there is a small walk through the trees to get to it.

Very calming and secluded beach - kids got bored and went back into tarbet for some candy floss and a pint - epic scenery

A lovely find!

Eventually found this after asking a local. Really unusual and fun to get to over some rocks. We sat for an hour or so looking at the shells and watching the boats on the loch- all really enjoyed it

Small hidden beach
May 2019 • Couples
This beach was down at the end of the village and would not be easy for anyone with walking difficulties to get to. It was a lovely secluded area covered with broken shells, hence the name.

Worth the walk

A beach reached by a walk from Tarbert down Pier Road and a careful scramble over rocks but well worth the effort.
