Castle visit

Fabby visit to the castle, quite a few steps up and path a bit rocky but really well maintained. Fantastic views across the harbour, also nice walks around the castle area.

Wonderful views

It's a bit of a climb to get up to the castle but we'll worth the effort. The views are brilliant and to learn the history is wonderful. Kids loved it and the sheep that are grazing on the hill were very friendly and approachable.

A wonderful walk with a breathtaking view
Oct 2020
We visited the Royal Castle of Tarbert on our visit to the village.
The walk around the ruin, the country paths and the community woodland were beautiful.
The castle is a ruin and has been reinforced.
The grounds are spotless and maintained by the community.
The walk can be steep and muddy but just dress appropriately- we wore wellies and were perfectly fine.
The views are spectacular and you get to see out from multiple different heights on the walk up.
The trip is donation only so is definitely value for money. I highly recommend a visit.

Great views
Sep 2020
We spent the morning exploring Tarbert and walked up the steps to look at the ruins of the castle. There are information boards which explain the history and several longer walks start from this point. The location of this castle affords some great photo opportunities as you can see across the bay and further afield. We were lucky with the weather too

Nice to drop in if you’re nearby

A short walk up the steps, not as far as I thought, but great views when you’re up there. Also some other nice little walks, ponds, etc.
The castle is in ruins but still interesting to see if you’re in the area.

Worth the walk up - not as far / steep as we thought.
No entry fee, just a donation request.
Not much of castle left but great views once you get there.

Lovely walk up to the castle even in the rain! Beautiful views from the castle across Tarbert & beyond. The castle has so much history, most of the history about the castle will be found on the information boards but doing a wiki search is also good to further your knowledge on this historical place. :) we will be back for a wee visit!

Not much left of the original castle

Steep climb up to the castle. Excellent views. No actual rooms to go into as it is basically a ruin.

Amazing views

Steep steps but like a few minutes walk. We encountered some sheep ! Which was a treat ! The views were amazing from the top. As the castle was ruins, there wasn't that much to , but still worth it !

Little walkwith a view

The town and ruin Castle are lovely places to walk around but the real hidden gem is above. If you walk up into the hills behind the castles the views over the Loch are stunning! Take a picnic and enjoy yourself.
