Nature Trail - Kreklingen The trail starts from Belehalli sports hall in Balestrand and goes on to Sandstolen or Skasheim. This is an easy trail with an ascent of 90 - 250m. The first part goes along a nature trail marked with notices giving information about the plants and animals in the area. Further along the trail you get some very fine views over Balestrand. The trail is marked with yellow markings and signposted towards Granlia and Skasheim. From Granlia you can either follow the yellow markings further to Sandstolen (shorter route) or Skasheim (longer route). The trail consists of stone/gravel/grass and is approx 50 - 60cm wide. It can be used for off road cycling. The walk takes between 2 and 4 hours depending on which route you choose and your own condition. Getting there: From Balestrand quay/tourist office walk up Laerergata and on to Kreklingevegen until you get to Belehalli sports hall. The roads are signposted with white nature trail signs. To reach Balestrand take the express bus from Oslo, Bergen or Trondheim or express boat from Bergen. If you come by car from Oslo take the E16 and route 55. From Bergen or Trondheim take the E39 and route 55. For more information contact Balestrand Tourist Office www.visitbalestrand.no info@visitbalestrand.no

This is an very good walk that serves either as an introduction to the flora and fauna of the area, or as a starting point for further walks. My mother, who is in her late 60's, was able to enjoy this walk. The 'hardest' bit...More

We are two fit couples in our late fifties/early sixties staying in Balestrand for two nights, essentially to explore the fiords. But we ventured into the shorter nature trails in the early morning/mid-evening spare hours (it remaining light until around 11pm)! We would love to...More

The trailhead(s) begin right in town. We headed out on the trail to the top. The view from the 'summit' makes the huffing and puffing well worth it. Actually, there are several well-marked trails for every degree of difficulty. You'll pass waterfalls, sheep and hike...More

We had a few hours to devote to hiking so we picked up a trail map from the Tourist Information site and set off (walk Laerargata up to the school, the trailhead is right there). The trails are well marked with color coded spots of...More

Well-marked trail; great for families. We hiked the nature trail and the beginning of a trail rated with moderate-difficulty until we reached a viewpoint. My husband and I went with our hike-loving toddler and baby (who I carried). Gorgeous views, not too strenuous.

We did the yellow trail and the nature trail. The yellow trail is well marked but watch for the signs leading up to it. The hotel were very helpful with this. There are signs for the floor ra but not all in English - it's...More

This is about a mile in length with minor elevation gain. There are nicely situated benches for rests and views. You might need this if you are staying at the Kviknes and enjoying the Smorgasbord!

Trail has a track for all levels of fitness. We weren't prepared to be going on this walk so didn't go for as long as we'd have liked but it was nice with information posters on species of the area! Either track you'll find some...More

Great walks of all lengths and inclines through lush forest and with amazing fjord views. Relatively steep incline from harbor to trail head, so even an "easy" walk starts with a 2km climb! See other reviews for fjord pics. Here are some of the forest.
