Beatiful church where the Parish priest celebrated the wedding of my son. Unforgettable sunny day. Perfect organization and flower setting.

It's a wonderful Cathedral with astonishing paintings of Simone Martini.

It's just outside the province of Siena, that's why most people ignore Massa Marittima, its beautiful medieval walls, the sloping evocative square and the magnificent Cathedral.
Very important people from all over the world have chosen it as a venue for their exclusive weddings

The title of this review says it all. Beware, though, it is not always open. Easy reach of some excellent restaurants after you have been to mass on a Sunday!

Amazing

A Roman Catholic Cathedral in the small borgo Massa Marittima in Tuscany.
Impressive stairs: a beautiful view of the borgo from the top of the stairs.
Recommended to visit the Cathedral as well as to enjoy the view of it simply sitting in one of the nice cafés on the square. Wow experience!

Simply impressive

A really impressive cathedral on a beautiful piazza. Advice: go there between 12 and 3 pm. It's quite empty then. Enter the church through the main entrance and watch the light and colors by the entering sunlight under the dome. Really impressive.
Outside it is a great for taking pics. You can shoot pretty effects by sun and shadow on the place. Best time for that is a sunny day or evening past holidays.

We walked up to the old town and were impressed by the grandeur of the cathedral. It’s interior is not too fussy and the steps provide a grand view of the square. There was a vintage sports car rally parked in from of the cathedral. Worth a visit.

Authentic Pisano Romanesque cathedral that's not in Pisa...
Jul 2018 • Friends
Massa Marittima is a Tuscan hill town that's off the usual tourist routes, but is certainly worth a morning-through-lunchtime stop for a visit. The town is dominated by its Duomo, which is a Pisa-style Romanesque church (not something you tend to see outside of Pisa, but the style came here thanks to alliances and trade in the pre-Gothic Middle Ages). The interior is unadorned compared to any church in Rome or any Gothic church in Tuscany, but it has preserved a range of very old frescoes and like decoration that would have been typical for a city's cathedral in the 13th century - rather uncommon and pretty neat to see. Another perk are the high stairs leading up to it, which double as some of the best people watching seats in town - a great place to watch the world go by.

We visited this town on a pretty rainy day. Only a handful visitors were in town.
The massive Cathedral catches your eye immediately. It's been almost rebuilt by scratch and been undergoing major changes between the 11th and 15th Century. Quite a time to finish this cathedral. Some sources date the origins even before that.

We haven't had the time to go inside, but just from outside it's definitely a looker and worth checking this little town out.

Imposing building dominating the Piazza dating from the 13th centuary
Apr 2018 • Family
While the cathedral building and the bell tower date from the 13th century the interior contains sculptures paintings and frescoes dating from the 14th to 17th centuries. Dominating the aisles are imposing cylindrical columns and cruciform pilasters leading towards the rare stained glass central rose window. Unfortunately Mobile phones and camera's are not allowed
