Fabulous Place to Visit
Oct 2019
We spent 3 nights here and enjoyed Every, Single, Minute. It's out in the country and away from anything touristy. Authentic, realistic, beautiful, peaceful, and very memorable. We used their cottage as our central point and quickly and easily got to know Franca and her sister Mimma. Love the Cooking Mama's!!!

We also attended or participated in their classic Tuscan home cooking. We made the best Italian meal ever right in Franca's kitchen. It was a 6-course meal that we helped prepare/eat and walked away stuffed. Franca gave us the leftover Tiramisu which we enjoyed for the next 3 days.

Highly recommend and you definitely need reservations for either the cooking class or to stay in their villa. You won't be disappointed!!!

Breathtaking

This renovated vineyard is a treasure to be found in Tuscany. You can't appreciate the beauty of the place until you are standing on the grounds looking out over the vineyards. We spent an evening there, and it was a highlight of our trip.

Beautiful and peaceful
Apr 2016 • Family
My wife and I and 12 year old granddaughter spent four nights here in early April. We stayed in the Le Diacce guest house. It was a beautifully restored hundreds year old farmhouse with an amazing view. Our half of the two story house had two bedrooms, a living room, dining and kitchen.

We were warmly greeted by owner Franca upon our arrival. She gave us some fresh jam and eggs from her chickens (freshest I've ever had) and loaned us maps and guidebooks and told us about the area. She had also made dinner reservations for us (something she'd inquired ahead) at a lovely restaurant.

On the second afternoon we did a cooking class with Franca and her lovely helper Maria (arrange in advance), which of course included dinner. It was fabulous.

The property is lovely, well kept and peaceful. I would highly recommend it.

Wine Tasting and Cooking Class
Jul 2016
It was a greta treat to meet Franco and Franca at Podere Ciona. This small winery, cooking school and villa rental location in the heart of Chianti provided us with an authentic Tuscany experience. They produce exceptional hand crafted wines from their own grapes.

Wonderful!

Franca and Franco are so nice! So hospitable. The accommodations were large. We did not know that we needed to bring any food, so they gave us some coffee and milk. There was maps and books to look at for surrounding towns. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to try wines. We didn't realize we could try wines until it was too late.

An Incredible Week in Tuscany!
Sep 2014 • Family
This is a LONG overdue review. We came across Podere Ciona (aka Le Diacce) on a few websites catering to vacation rentals. As we narrowed down potential rentals for our family trip this location quickly rose to the top of our list. All prior visitors left such glowing reviews!

Podere Ciona is a family-owned vineyard and winery west of Montevarchi about a 90 minute drive south of Florence. The property is quite secluded and sits at the end of a dirt road in Montegrossi. Although, clearly an old ivy covered farm house you would never have known it. Le Diacce is the largest of 3 buildings available for rent on the estate. The farmhouse is well appointed and split into two self sufficient units but you can take the entire building - which we did. There are 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms, and a large formal dining room. The kitchen is fully stocked - bring you own groceries and you are good to go. The bathrooms and kitchens are very modern and the WIFI is excellent. We were traveling with 8 people and had room to spare. There is a washing machine, mother nature dries the clothes.

Each building is it’s own little world with their own entrances and driveways. You probably will not cross paths with other guests unless you saw them at the pool. Our kids had room to roam, Le Diacce has a large brick patio area bordered by a large lawn. Sitting in lawn chairs looking out over the valley is quite relaxing. We took some long walks around the perimeter among grapevines and olive trees. The owners live further in the estate down a long gravel driveway. Keep in mind you are in a rural area so there are lots and lots of animals and insects about both inside and outside. Bring bug repellent and check the rooms and beds before turning in for the night.

The summer of 2014 was cool and drizzly so high temps were not a concern. I suspect the stone structure would have remained cool regardless. There is a swimming pool as well (not heated) a short walk away. The kids loved it as did the occasional local critter. Le Diacce’s location outside Gaiole in the heart of Chianti is excellent and an easy drive to Siena, Florence, the Prada outlet in Montevarchi, and the fashion outlets outside Florence. Groceries are available at a small Coop store in Gaiole. Montevarchi is a larger town with frequent train service to Florence. There is so much to see and experience, you would not regret spending a month here to wander the Tuscan countryside.

The owners are wonderful people and very considerate hosts. We learned so much about the region from Franca. For instance, property owners are prohibited from building new structures and cannot alter the exterior of existing structures during renovations. If a window wasn’t there already, you cannot add one! Advice, if you are interested in eating at a local restaurant, Franca is only too happy to make arrangements so have her do so. We found that it can be difficult at times to dine in town without these introductions. Also if you have the opportunity to take her cooking class, do so! We all did it and love it.

By the way, the Podere Ciona Chianti Classico DOCG Reserva is very good wine! We enjoyed a bottle at Osteria "Il Papavero" in Barbischio.

Qinnessential Italian farmhouse rental
May 2015 • Couples
If you want to be welcomed like family and enjoy a true Italian experience in Chianti, you will find it at Podere Ciona. So relaxing to have our wine or breakfast under the arbor in our own small private garden overlooking the vineyards and valley. Our hostess, Franca couldn't have been more helpful from grocery store locations to dinner reservations. Don't miss a winetasting at the Enoteca (the vineyard's Chianti is great). Disappointed we left on the day she was having a cooking class at her sister's. I would have loved to have attended. jhz tucson

Chique Chianti at Ciona

We happened upon Franca Gatteschi (Owner) in her back garden. We were a party of eight arriving unannounced. However, she changed her plans to accommodate us with an informative and wonderful wine tasting session in a purpose built room overlooking the most exquisite views of the Tuscany Hills.
She spoke perfect English and describes the wine and regional issues with such passion and vigour.
They also have accommodation and she also will give cooking lessons!
It is not exactly easy to find but worth the perseverance.
No pressure to buy at all.
