We ended up in this pretty lakeside town because we had to take a bus from Stressa to Arona to catch the train to Milan. So we spent an hour or two luxuriating in the ambiance of the lively little place. The tourist office is excellent but train station is a bit lackluster.

A stroll around the town won't take you too long, but it is lovely to roam along the small narrow roads, have a peep in some of the shops and just take in the atmosphere.

If you wander along the Lungolago from the railway or boat station, you have the option of heading back through the Centro Storico of Arona. Lots of interesting buildings, plenty of shops and cafes, so well worth a visit.

As part of a visit to Lake Maggiore we were told to spend an hour visiting Arona. As I would imagine with any town on the lake, the view is beautiful. What we did not expect was a great (to great) of a shopping experience. Shoes, leather items, beautiful shaving accessories — maybe too much fun. I hate shopping but we ended up spending 3 hours enjoying the center of town enjoying refreshments, sightseeing and shopping. Look got the curtain of pinwheels and you will know you are there. …

The old town of Arona is a wonderful place to enjoy a walk through the old alleys. I would definitely recommend it, if you are staying in Arona!
