Koprivshtitsa is part of Bulgarian history, and Dimcho Debelyanov is one of the famous Bulgarian poets, so it's worth to visit.

Home of the Symbolist poet, it is beautiful and beautifully placed. The blue ground floor wonderfully contrasts with the darker top storey and the red roof tiles.

In the garden is a poignant sculpture of Dimcho's mother awaiting her son's return from World War I. Her wait was in vain as he was killed in 1916.

Fine portraits of him are to be seen inside. Comfortable rooms contain numerous possessions and artefacts.

I personally find this street to be the most important for Koprivshtitsa and maybe the most beautiful one in Bulgaria. Located on this small and charming street, beside the stunning views you will find the authentic small house of Debelyanov's fammily, which is the smallest, but I think the most charming museum in town. The birthplace of a very nobel citizen of Koprivshtitsa - Hadji Nencho Palaveev is now a gallery and its just across Debelyanov's house. The street has a beautiful little bridge on its end, which connects two neighbourhoods across the river, on the other end of the street the old majestic church is standing with amazing view from its doorsteps

Not only a beautiful village with the traditional houses well situated in the mountain meadows, but also an important place in Bulgarian history. Many rebels and leaders of the revolution in 1876 were born here and educated (the school plays an important role, there are two examples where you can see the old classrooms). Buy a six houses ticket near the tourist information and you will not be disappointed, it gives several hours of walking through the village. Each house has a different story about one of the inhabitants. They all seem to ask for a movie: the poet Debelyanov (you can hear his poems in the house) and his painter friend (who looks like Johnny Depp in an old photograph), Todor Kableshkov, the rich merchant Petko, the journalist Karavelov and his brother the politician and the soldier Georgui Benkovksi. how they all went to war and died young. At Benkovksi’s wooden house a little bit outside the village there is a giant sculpture of him on horseback, watching over the houses or driving away from the, whatever you wish to see. The panorama from this statue- you can climb all around it- is great.

Several of the traditional houses of the beautiful mountain village of Koprivshtitsa, which played such an important role in Bulgaria's history and culture, have been turned into 'house museums'. Eight of them belong to the municipality and can be visited with a combined ticket for 6 BGN (single entry to each house would be 4 BGN). To really appreciate the place and to make the most of a visit it is very much recommended to spend at least a night here in one of the charming guesthouses.

The first house I happened to see was the 'Dimcho Debelyanov museum'. There is behind stone walls a big yard in front of the not very big house. It is special for being painted blue in the lower part with the winter rooms, while the upper part, reserved for the summer, is built with wood. And as is the tradition here the roof is made with red tiles.

All houses in Koprivshtitsa date from the 19th century. The one here is named after the poet Dimcho Debelyanov, who was born in this house, which had once been built by his grandfather. Although living mainly in Plovdiv and Sofia, Debelyanov was apparently always full of nostalgia for his birthplace. Known for his symbolistic poetry he died at the age of 29 as a lieutenant in a battle against the 10th Irish Division in Northern Greece during World War I. Bulgaria then fought on the side of the Central Powers against the Allies. In the yard can be seen a sculture by a friend of his showing a brooding mother. A copy of it is on the tombstone of the poet in Koprivshtitsa's cemetery.

The visit to Dimcho Debelyanov's house was very educational. It was both interesting and sad to read about his life in Koprivshtitsa and during the Balkan War and the World War I. While you walk around his house and read the info boards, you can listen to his audio-recorded poems.
All Bulgarians must be proud that such a person was born and worked in our country.
It is also commendable that the house and some of Dimcho Debelyanov's belongings are so well preserved. It is also great that all the information is presented both in Bulgarian and English.
Taking photos inside the house is not allowed. There is a combo ticket for 6 museums in Koprivshtitsa at a ridiculously low price.

This is just one of six house museums in the quaint village of Koprivshtitsa, but it is the most moving. He was a poet and dutiful son but died a young orphan. His father when he was very young. He writes of the senseless decades of war and the longing for peace. Every Bulgarian should visit this home for sure, but anyone will find it interesting and moving.
