I was really looking forward to coming here, and was expecting a furnished castle. The outside lives up to what I expected. The inside was very sparse, some exhibits behind glass windows. Nothing was in English. On the top floor you can go outside to...More

We were suffering a little from castle fatigue by the time we got to Shimabara Castle. Nevertheless, it was still decent. There were actors who were dressed as feudal lord at the entrance, awaiting to greet guest. They were quite obliging when it comes to...More

The castle in Kumamoto sits atop a large plateau, a beautiful park, portions of the original castle, and a large restored section of the castle complex. Definitely worth a visit. A good visit for adults and children.
