The Port of Harlingen
Jul 2021
The port of Harlingen is the most important port of Friesland. The seaport is located on the Wadden Sea. Harlingen has different kind of ports such as industry port, fishing port, inland port, outer harbor, marina, recreational harbor and some others. We went to the south harbour that is located among the houses and it's very nice to see with all the sailing boats. And at the "Nieuwe Willemshaven" you can see big ships.

Very Nice small port with Dutch houses.

Very Nice small port with lots of old Dutch houses next to the port and the main canal. Pittoresk and enough restaurants to choose from.

Great atmosphere and nice contrast with the old town center. Parking is 2€ per day and it is next to the train station

Quite a nice harbour!.
Dec 2019 • Solo
The Harlingen Harbour is where the ferries leave for the Wadden islands of Terschelling and Vlieland. It is about 25 minutes by train from Leeuwarden, with the train journey passing though quite beautiful nature. It was quite pleasant to take a walk here and in the small town next to it. It was a very nice way indeed to end my day-trip today to Friesland.🤗🤗P.S. Spelling corrections: 1. *Oliebollen* posting: New Year's Eve and 2. *Sculptures*: Quite an inspiring work of art ...Sorry!✌✌

Walkable
Nov 2019 • Couples
The port and city of Harlingen is very walkable. Visit it before you take the boat to one of the Dutch islands.

A delightful busy port
Sep 2019
We spent some time in the restaurant/cafe overlooking the harbour on a very damp day and enjoyed watching all the various ships passing by as well as the ferries to and from the Wadden Islands of Terschling and Vlieland. There is an entrance to the canal system not far away so it was quite busy with canal barge traffic as well.

So much to see and enjoy
Jul 2019
It seems as if Harlingen is dominated by the port, with its numerous canals and marinas, but it does mean that there is an awful lot to see and enjoy, especially with historic boats and sailing barges, and beautiful surrounding buildings.

A beautiful place to use as a base for cycling - lovely bars restaurants and easy well sign posted cycle routes out of the town

Interesting place
Sep 2019
Harlingen is one of those interesting Friese places with a lot of heritage but also a lot going on today. There were quite a lot of tall ships which were fascinating, and we spent a long time talking to the captain of a former Trinity House lightship which is now a pirate radio station. The ferry across to Harlingen centre showed us another view of the harbour, and we found a lovely canal-side cafe for lunch. There are lots of bridges which are constantly opening to let boats through, which in itself is interesting.
