Do not expect some wonderful views or never-seen-before sceneries. This is an adventure trio where you can test yourself (and observe others).
Pros:
- Once you decide to pass it, you will do it
- You will find that you can do more than you expect
- You will face wild nature just few minute5of drive from standard resort
Cons:
- Don't try it in winter for the first time

This is one of the places that I will say hell yeah
It is not a silly walk in the forest, you have to be focus, not deadly afraid of hights and your condition has to be on average level.
You should try it out!

The hike is absolutely worth it... online pics don't do justice to the experience of actually hiking the entire trail.. and its not at all difficult or scary...definitely some thing to do if your in slovakia...

What an adventure of a day here at the sucha bela canyon. Absolutely loved this hike! Started 8:45am on a Monday with not a single person in sight! Follow the stream all the way up (no hope trying to dodge the water, your feet will get wet) ladders were such an epic experience along with the metal ledges and beautiful water falls. I did feel safe however there where a few broken bridges in need of some TLC. Ok no not the best waterfalls in town but the hike was filled with adventures for around 2/3 of the hike. Starting off straight in stepping over fallen trees and walking along wooden bridges. The last bit of the hike was probably the toughest. It was pretty steep with no obstacles but this part only took around 20 minutes. All in all from top to bottom the hike took me 4 hours, would have been much less had the cycle hire stand been open! (Sadly they open at 1!!)
Car park €3
Hike €1.50
Start point/car park: next to Podlesok camping site (start of hike is directly over the little bridge right at the restaurants up a slight hill and the hello sign for the start will be clear) 5 minutes walk from the car park
Toilet: car park
Hike time: 4 hours up and down by foot
Bike hire opening times: 1pm €7. 1.5 hour walk down 30mins by bike.
Enjoy!!!!

Nice canyon to walk through, The whole walk was about 18KM (quite a lot for a family)
Was expecting a bit more water and a little bit more solid infrastructure, But was good nevertheless.

Great canyon to enjoy the slovaquian nature. With some difficulties along the way, this walk is amazing but one has to be ready for adventure.

This is a great hiking trip next to a little creek, also when you bring children along. It is not to hard and there are lots of bridge constructions to climb on. We passed some people who were afraid of heights (on the bridge constructions), but there are alternatives (although these are sometimes more difficult).
IMPORTANT NOTE! Go very early. We left the camping in Podlesok around 10:30 and arrived at the ladder around 11:45, but the line was very long (see picture)!

The ascent is demanding but fun. You have to walk on or climb using ladders, chains and catwalks. There is one active waterfall at the moment; all the 3 others are dry. The descent is long and mostly boring.

We visited in midweek in March- it would probably be a better hike for a little later in the year. Despite it being a warm day with no snow or ice elsewhere nearby, there were large sections where the river was still frozen over, often with water running under the ice which we had to walk over to pass. Also some of the steps were covered with ice. It was very quiet, we only encountered about 3 other small groups the whole way, most of whom seemed to have turned around before completing the walk.
There was nowhere open to buy a map, so we followed the trail which was easy to identify with green and white markers, and essentially just follows the river the whole way. You have to walk in the river for much of the time, but this was fine with a pair of walking boots.
Some of the ladders and steps feel a bit precarious- there were many parts of the wooden ladders where steps were rotting away or had previously broken. There are several very high ladders with no safety equipment.
It took us 2.5 hours to walk up the canyon, and just less than 1.5 to walk down the gravel road. The bike hire at the top was not open at this time of year, so we just continued past it for an easy downhill walk.
There were a couple of places to buy food near the carpark, but these were all closed.
Overall we quite enjoyed this, it was something a bit different and a lot of fun. I would probably recommend going slightly later in the year. I would personally not take children here. Make sure you take a camera (that you can put in a pocket or rucksack for the climbing) and waterproof walking boots!

Walking up stream to find the waterfall and then nothing prepares you for what you see.
An absolutely stunning waterfall.
You then climb up ladders, some completely vertical with no safety equipment.
So not for the faint hearted or those with limited physical ability or fear of heights.
But sooooo worth the trip

2. How can I reach Sucha Bela by bus from Poprad. I was checking on cpcka.hnonline.sk but coudn't find bus routes after 15 December?
Any help is highly appreciated

Es factible siempre que esté acostumbrada a caminar por senderos y que vosotros tengais experiencia para poder ayudarla en algunos tramos. Hay pasos por pasarelas de madera o escaleras muy empinadas donde la protección o medidas de seguridad son escasas
Hi, can somebody tell me which trail is more difficult, Sucha bela or Piecky?

Hi, its the same dificulty and lenght, Sucha bela may be a liitle bit more interesting because of vertical ladders, but during weekends its crowded and you can wait at the ladders for up to 1hour, sometimes even more, but if you are going in late autumn or winter, it should be without any waiting :)

We plan to fly to Kisice Airport and get the train to Hrabusice so we can do the Sucha Bela Canyon (looking at Jul 2019), but can anyone advise how we get to the beginning of the hike from our base? We don't want to get hire cars. Thanks for your help.

אני מבין שאנחנו עולים ברגל במעלה הנחל. האם האופציה היחידה לרדת היא בהליכה? האם יש אופציה לתחבורה ציבורית, או מונית שתחכה לנו על הגבעה?

I understand that we walk up the stream. Is the only option to go down is walking? Is there an option for public transportation, or a taxi waiting for us on the hill?

I am traveling throush Slovakia with my elderly parents who can't do this hike. What attractions or places of interest are nearby that they can visit while I am hiking Sucha Bela? How long does it take the average visitor to get through Sucha Bela Canyon. Thanks. AJ
